Geforce4 Ti 4600 Which Driver To Use?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Geforce4 Ti 4600 Which Driver To Use?
Does anyone here have this graphics card? I know it`s a little outdated now but the drivers packaged with it are slow and I wanted to know which drivers other users er... use.
Here`s the full name and serial.
Creative 3D Blaster GeForce4 Ti 4600 (MS-8872)
Lots of NVidia drivers of late seem to cause random crashes so I`m not sure which ones to use. As I have said the ones that came with it are alot slower so those are a no no.
Any help would be great as my system feels very unstable at the moment and it`s definetely a graphics driver issue.
Jason.
I have this card, but made by LeadTek. I've found that LeadTek's drivers were more stable than NVidias, so would recommend that you grab Creative's own ones (assuming they have them).
[EDIT] I just had a little search on www.creative.com, but couldn't find drivers for this card. Using Google I found this post on their forums however, which might prove useful:

The latest drivers (v81.98, from nVidia.com) seem to run fine on my bros 4600TI, cant recall the brand-name that made his card though.
Only issue he has (that I also have on my 6800 GT) is that the hardware mouse cursor goes foobar somethigns when the PC does some heavy loading (ex. a Battlefield2 map) and the mouse cursor image freezes onto the desktop, making me have to guess where my mouse really is to click on buttons what not.
For a GeForce4, I would use the WHQL drivers (4x.xx I think) available on MS Update...
Avon, thanks for the link but after looking at it I see that it is for the 4200 card only.
Genexi2, the v81.98 cause crahes on my Creative card as do most of the more recent NVidia ones. I`m a bit weary to try any others really unless I know they are stable as I have had to reinstall windows completely bacuse of NVdia drivers.
Toby, the WHQL drivers on MSUpdate believe it or not fail to work at all for me, not even letting me change screen resolutions.
I`ll keep looking... but thanks guys for the help.
Jason.
@QS:That's funny, well not for you I guess. Anyways I wouldn't use any drivers later than the 5x.xx series, otherwise you're likely to just introduce yourself to bugs that no longer get looked after for older cards...
heh, My friends 64mb Geforce 4 mx hates blitz, all the graphics come out corrupted lots of flashing white geometry and particles with alpha channels displaying solid black and white bilboards, representing the actual alpha channel.
Not sure what to suggest since he primarily uses a Mac, but wants to try out blitz games on his PC.
Funny thing is that if I use the driver for my card from the MSUpdate site it all installs ok and then I get stuck with a 4bit display mode which I cannot change to any other depth.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Jason.
I have actually on a GeForce 5 series of cards by MSI. Since those drivers always worked for my GeForce 3 I assumed they would at least be fine for GeForce 4's... but yeh... ok so don't touch those drivers then ;]
