X3:Reunion

Well, I bought this title and I've been trying to get into it (patched and all), but it's just feeling like too much like work for not enough fun. In fact when I play this game I feel I'm not playing a game so much as trying to work with a tricky 3d spreadsheet.
Hanging out now for Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (PC version), and Oblivion (although I'm concerned at what Oblivion might do to my dev time)
I like X3 reunion, reminds me of Elite, takes a bit of time to get going unless you capture a ship and sell it to buy equiptment early on. Without a lot of the computer upgrades you do get a bit stuck and need capital to start on some business.
One of the first things I did was take out a pirate and take his ship, sold it for about 100,000 credits, and bought a bunch of computer upgrades and extra shields. It's an unforgiving game early on. But gets good with some patience :) Just like Elite really only a lot more depth.
Wish they had some of the cooler things from elite in there though, like the procedural universe and the planet landings etc. But other than that its pretty deep.
Yeah, I'm being lazy I guess but as you say it is quite unforgiving early on.
Also, I think it would have to be a contender for the worst intro ever award -the opening video with the badly animated presenter talking about the power of the 'kaak' was just hilarious.
I wanted to try it. Right now I have a bunch of PC games stacked up and I only played them for about 2 days. Can't see getting another one unless I finish the others. Well, Civilization IV I've played through 2 games of it ... I guess it's not really a game you 'beat' I really like that ... it's like a super time consumer high score type game. It's like Tetris or Geometry Wars but time consuming strategy instead of reflex based. Not sure if that parallel makes sense.
I will get back to it I'm sure.
It's just that after a day of computer work, I usually want something simple before going on to my game programming session (9pm - 2am).
Speaking of game programming sessions, isn't it about time for a new Tank Universal worklog? ;]

Quite right! I've been sketching out a few paragraphs for a new worklog - I'll post something substantial this week (but not a demo).
