I am thinking about purchasing a graphics tablet, but i don't have a clue about which one to get. Could anyone possibly help me with deciding which one to get and prices etc?

Wacom make real graphics tablets, as fot the rest.... they mostly suck.

Own an Intuos2 9x12" from them, works a dream, but I wish I have chosen smaller as it is really a desk hog.

Wacom, for sure.
That one is quite small you know, but not a bad price either by the look of it.
I'm using an A5 and that's as small as I'd feel comfortable with.
The idea of one with a a mouse is nice as it eats less desk for getting the both jobs done, but I've not tried one yet. If you can add a puck later then I'd probably be more encouraged to go that route. Especially if they did one the size of an average mouse mat I guess. But those are with my use priorities, you need to choose one for yours.

Having looked over the rest they got there I'd go for th £149 one, if any of them. Wacom CTE-640/S Graphic 4 Classic XL.
I'd throw the corel paint toy thing in the bin where it belongs though.

Oh and don't let folk borrow the pen, had to rescue mine from the trash, youngest girl walked into my office, borrowed it and thought the ink had run out, so binned it! She had a near death experience that day, and never even knew it! ;O)

Wacom pen partner - Might have been from Simply, but they went out of business some years back. Ah, the Just rewards of being complacent towards your customers! ;O)

I have an old 6x8 art padzII with serial port also about 7 years old. The thing seems to be unbreakable :) so I havent had to buy another either :)
I have to say they are all right, but I don't have any issues - having used both, with the £22.97 one from Asda - Trust is the make and its a 5x4 - great for starters and getting the feel of a tablet.
If you can afford the WACOM then do, otherwise you can buy a cheap one to get the job done.

Cheers IPete. Actually now that you mention it, i am a bit restricted in the finance department, so i think i may take your advice and just get a cheap one for now, to get the feel of using it.
It doesn't feel the same at all. It is wildly inaccurate - I have used the aldi one (same price). I also snapped the pen and took it back.
It is vile.

The volito is much the same as the graphire 3 except it feels a bit cheaper and plastiky and the pen does not have a proper button on it. Both are 512 levels of pressure AFAIK. There is graphire 4 or something now anyway... any wacom at all will be good.
Small isn't bad, cos when you scribble, it's small anyway. If you're using photoshop you might want to change brush dynamics so pressure is opacity and not size, it's all a preference of the artist and up to you.

I have used WACOM on a MAC and on a PC... Fantastic each time!!! Have a beta of PSP10/CorelPaint... it has wiggles with the 6X8 but I think that is software... I use pressure for size and not opacity (but I also manually set the size!)

I have a Wacom Pen Partner and a Trust so I had used both, the Wacom is better no doubt, but I was simply saying that some people find tablets difficult to get on with, (but I didn't realise the Volito was so cheap).
Something I was told by a Wacom engineer a while back was that all the Wacom tablets are all the same resolution. The Pen Partner is quite a small area to work with I think you need to be sure about how much arm movement would be acceptable for you.
Unless you are really serious about graphics (i.e. it is your job) then I believe you can do a similar job with the cheaper one, but if you can afford the Wacom, do.

I prefer smaller ones myself. They're more convenient to carry around, but more importantly they suit my drawing style better. It's a bad habit I guess, but I draw with small motions from the wrist. And no, I didn't start drawing like that because I got a small tablet; I was always like that, even before I started working on a computer.
Well i am just about to go out to PC World to purchase my Volito in a bit :D
