[Hardware] Motherboards and HardDrives?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/[Hardware] Motherboards and HardDrives?

I'm looking to purchase a new motherboard and GFX card. What I'm looking for first is a motherboard that will allow me to use the 2 new Sata HD's I have and will also allow me to plug in the old IDE HD's.

So, basically I want the motherboard to have the Sata Drives as primary and secondary drives. I want to use 2 DVDRW drives and 2 normal IDE drives.

Is this possible? If it is can you provide me with links to the best motherboard that does this?

I've looked at a lot of motherboards but honestly don't have a clue if they can do what I want. I'm looking for a motherboard priced between £80-£160.

Any help would be welcome.

Thanks :)

It depends on what CPU you want to use: I suppose you want to use the P4 still...
but in case you want to pass to AMD I can suggest any mb of Asus (nvidia Nforce4 SLI)...I think that there something (c51?) for Intel too but I'm not sure.

I would go for something that supports PCI express - which Nforce 4 does.

If you are looking ( or prepared ) to go to AMD, the GA-K8N Ultra SLI from Gigabyte seems to fit your requirements. And it comes in around the 90 quid mark, which is pretty darn reasonable.

Abit motherboards probably have all the IDE channels you could possibly want. The thing you need to decide is how many of each do you want?

If you only want one IDE channel (your DVDRW drives are SCSI or SATA) then any recent ABit motherboard will do. If they are IDE aswell, and you need two IDE channels, something like the AI7 has 2 regular IDE channels and SATA RAID. That is if your P4 is a socket 478. If it's a LGA 775, then get the NI8 SLI instead.

Do you have SATA or SATA2 harddrives?

if you have an amd64 cpu i have a mobo for sale.
