XBOX compatibility

Does anyone know how to get a game on to xbox 360? or xbox? is this possible with blitz stuff?

*sigh* no

The XBox 360 is based around a non-x86 CPU architecture that's not supported by any of the Blitz versions, so that's definitely not going to happen anytime soon.

The regular XBox works around a standard Pentium chip, so would not be entirely outside of the realm of possibilities. The problem there is that even if something may technically be capable of running, you still need to bring a medium truckload of cash to Microsoft for them to 'allow' the program on the platform so you have a digitially signed program that actually gets accepted by the xbox device itself, without that it wouldn't run either. The console manufacturers have quite the nice little extortion racket going on.

The other problem with running stuff on the Xbox is that it uses a modified version of DX8. Blitz3D is most likely completely incompatible with it. As for BlitzMax, it wouldn't work in its current state.

Isn't 360 PPC architecture? that means it is only a small step for Blitzmax to support Xbox 360. Thats a mac processor.

Last I'd heard it was a signifigantly modified PPC architecture.

I don't think it is significantly modified.

Oh yeah? Well I don't think the sun will come up tomorrow. THE END IS NIGH!!!

REPENT! REPENT!!

Prototype with Blitz use port with Torque.

Knowing that PPC architecture is yours, I would recommend looking into a Mac Mini or iBook, installing a Mac version of Blitz (I doubt that Blitz makes versions of BlitzMax or Blitz 3D for Mac), or any language that shows compatibility to X360, and design your games around that. Outside of that, I wish that I could explain this much. However, in order to guarantee compatibility, I would probably compare a Mac Mini architecture to that of the X360. That's only the start to it, then you may have to go through that legal mumbo-jumbo to make it ported into the console, which will be expensive, and you would have to release that game to a publisher, and all that jazz. It doesn't sound worth trying, IMHO.

Scratch 'may'.

Pfft, yeah, really, knowing that olf billionaire in Redmond, WA, you know he's not gonna fool around with ya.

Uhh, you're not from around here, are you? =]

Is this for comomercial or home use? I know it is possible to put linux on a hacked Xbox install harddrives and such. If you do that you may be able to install a linux version of BlitzMax.

LinuxMax is afaik hard coded to run on x86 processors. In theory, it should be no problem at all to run on PPC processors (thanks to the Mac PPC support*), but it doesn't. If Xbox has a PPC processor, that'll put an end to it.
