Does this work for you?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Does this work for you?

I've incorporated the new igLoader "Plugin Download Framework" into the Cloverleafgames site. I need some people to test it for me please.

YOU NEED TO ENABLE JAVASCRIPT.

The URL : http://cloverleafgames.com/webbed.php

What to expect : When you click on one of the buttons to launch a game a small window will open, depending on the version if igLoader installed, if any, you may see an install screen. If you do not see an install screen you should see the game loading.

I have tested this on Firefox, Opera and IE.

Well I don't know if this info is useful to you, but I tried
running one from here at school and was denied from
installing(of course).

So no Igloader games at work, I suppose.

Hi,
I get a pop-up window, but it is blank, some text does pop up,but dissappears so fast I cannot read it. The game does not load. I use I.E 6 with windows ME.

Another good start :)

Thanks people, do you have Javascript enabled by the way?

works for me, you need to close the popup window then reopen after installing (not in instructions).

The Geom window does not embed in the web page though and the size of the window means the text in the cBubble game is close to unreadable for me. (1280x1024 desktop).

Works fine here.
Lovely graphics!
Is this written in Blitz3D?

Doesn't work here in Firefox, but that's probably because yer plug-in tries to install itself into the default Mozilla-install directory, where-as mine is elsewhere.

@Perturbatio, there is a little bit of text at the bottom that says "You may need to restart your browser after installation". - Odd that GEOM does not embed.

@John, Glad you like it. Nope it's not written in Blitz, it's c++, the reason I am talking about it here is that I am using it to serve by games which are all written in Blitz.

@Genexi2, The installer looks at the Registry for the plugin directory, if the registry key is not there then it installs to the default Mozilla directory - You got me :)

{edit}All the games are now 480x360, seems to fit better with peoples expectation of web games.

Weird, other programs that install to my browsers folder (Flash, Shockwave, Etc) work fine, and I assume they poke at the same registry file to grab the directory.....guess you could always give the user the option to select the directory path?

I reckon I need to write a little bit of Script as the Registry Key is Actually : Mozilla Firefox > Firefox 1.5 > Stuff > more Stuff > PluginDir. I need to be a bit more intelligent and enumerate the version of Firefox Installed.

You could move npigl.dll to the correct directory manually (ducks).

doesnt work in aol after installing plugin

Yep, works perfectly here. The download of igloader was small and quick, i was even unsure it installed propperly because it was that quick. I had to restart Opera and then i tried Geom. Need i say again that GEOM is the best casual game ever that i tried (not counting nintendo games if you can count those in). I think you are really doing an awesome job, and thanks for letting me have a go at a free online version of GEOM. You owe me 20 minutes tho, damn you. Definitely going to get GEOM deluxe this time round.

wahey Tim, you got a customer lined-up! Anyway I get the same grey box as mentioned in the other thread.

Grey Alien gets a Grey Box....Hmmnnnnnn, how am I supposed to react to that?

{EDIT}Go Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > igloader (uninstall)

What happens now?

Worked for Firefox and IE. And I didn't even need to restart FF or reopen the popup.

Under Opera,

I removed igLoader 1,0,0,3 and installed 1,0,0,4
The npigl.dll (36.5K) is present in the plugins folder.

I always get the 'first time here?' window no matter what I try. That applies for the 3 games available. Closing the window crashes Opera intermmitently too.

Works in IE.

Hi Jim,

Looks like an error with my Javascript, maybe :) I'll check it out. Thanks for the feedback.

removing via control panel worked. Cbubble loaded. Geomloaded fine but as it was loading a little dialog popped up saying "Warning!!! Problem with license file. This software will now be shut down", if you don't click OK the software can be used! ok does indeed shut it down. Then I closed the window and got another access violation. Went back into IE and tried GEOM again and it worked, hunh!
Roids worked too.

@Grey, never! You found that backdoor! Na seriously the shutdown is not tied to the MessageBox, it was obviously an incorrect error, hence the application ran.

Weird weird weird weird weird. What the hell are you doing, lad? This used to work! =]

OK, first off I installed 1.0.0.4 yesterday. Today, the first game I tried was GEOM. First time here screen. OK, I'll click the download button and reinstall just in case something minor changed. Clicked Start game. B3D window popped up and dissappeared straight away. First time here screen. OK, I went into Manage Add-Ons... like I did last time and manually updated the ActiveX. Restart browser - but when I closed the play window, another quick flash of a Blitz window. OK back on your page, I try Asteroids instead. First time here screen. Click Start game, IE crashes with Error Reporting dialog. Same with cBubble.

Fantastic, OK, I go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall. Back on the Asteroids game this time, I click Download again, let it do it's thing, well that's strange, the game is playing in it's seperate window with the 'do you want to download this file' dialog sitting on top. So OK, I'll install the file again with the game playing happily in the background, it finishes installing, I quit out of Asteroids, no problems, decide to check out cBubble. First time here screen. Click Start game. Screen goes white for a second then returns to the First time here screen. Well, at least it doesn't crash. Try GEOM, but same behaviour with quick flashes of B3D window on init + close.

Give up. Move onto different games site... no, wait, no I didn't, I started typing into this box thing here. Then I click Post, Then

I got the same error as Jim Brown, but in AOL (IE) instead of Opera

Hi People, igLoader remains the same, it's the install framework that's having a few issues. I'm going to sort it out this morning. I've a fair idea what them problem is and it's caused by my poor knowledge of how JavaScript works.

Thanks for your patience.

My JavaScript woes are over..... yey

Almost working in Oprea now.
I got all 3 games up and running. The loading progress bar kept wrapping around several times but the games load.

However, trying to re-play cBubble or GEOM brings up the framework window with a blank white area or the progrss bar stuck at 80% or so. iRoids is ok though.

This game-loader systems going to be great. Saves all the hassle of downloading, installing etc..

Worked fine in Firefox, except I had to hit "Start" twice.

The problem is Opera is that it does not report to the plugin the correct size of the file it's downloading - in fact it reports the size as Zero. The only way then to show progress was to wrap the loader bar.

The plugin is about as far through development as it's going to get with the current requirements. I have customers making suggestions all the time, this will mean some re-development in the future - the core plugin is about as solid as it can be.

If anyone else has any suggestions regarding future features please let me know.

Odd that GEOM does not embed.

It centres it on the screen regardless of the position of the popup window.

It centres it on the screen regardless of the position of the popup window.

That is very odd, the plugin can wait upto 20 seconds for the application to report that is has initialised, then it attempts to embed the application.
