TRAILER for my upcoming shooter

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/TRAILER for my upcoming shooter

I used a nice app called fraps and created a trailer of my upcoming game. I still have a lot of work to do, but I thought I'd show everyone what's going on so far!

The trailer is 5 megs, in wmv format. I've had trouble playing it in WinAmp the first time for some reason. So to play in winamp you might have to stop and hit play again to see it correctly. That might be something just happening on my computer though. However Windows Media Player plays it perfectly fine.

Thanks guys, please let me know what you think!!!

interesting trailer. Got potential for sure, looks like it's mouse controlled too? This could be a good move ...

Oooh, sweet! Really gave my subwoofer a workout! Is this a Dolby-certified game, from my understanding, or high-def graphics, etc...?

Cool.. Well, it will feature stereo sound, and quite possibly surround sound (depending on how big the files are, because I need to limit it's download size) - The graphics for the game is at 800x600 but I'm using large sprites and sizing them down to give it a good look.

Looks interesting
Good sound and music

If DL size becomes a problem and you have surround sound, you could offer the surround sound as a "bonus" download?

The pathway editor, I still gotta try it out...

Why do you people keep calling asteroid clones and invader clones "shooters"? A shooter is a first person shooter game (aka FPS). An invaders clone is an invaders clone and should be named so.

but a vertical/horiz scrolling game is a "shoot 'em up" and this genre existed before FPS games. I never really heard the term shooter in any mags or anything.

ehh actually they were called shooters. An FPS is a First Person Shooter, then there are games called "vertical shooters" and "horizontal shooters", etc. shooter is a broad genre.

yeah but shoot 'em up was the specific term for a scrolling shooter for sure! I just had to wiki ;-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoot_'em_up This is weird as I think maybe shooter was more of an American name and Shoot 'em Up was more U.K. Certainly ZZap64 always called 'em Shoot 'em ups as far as I recall.

Yup, it's shootemup, and I don't really like the abbreviation "shmup".

Call me old

Why dont we just call you "smuck" for not liking "shump" ?

Ok a shootemup is much better than shooter for this type of game. I demand a law be passed on game type declarations.

They've been called shooters/shootemups for a lot longer than fps games have existed.

Oh yeah, remember titles like Defender and Parsec (Parsec's like Texas Instruments' version of Defender), those shoot 'em ups go back to that and Space Invaders, so yeah, don't start thinking that FPS was the start of them. If you go back to the old Atari days, you know where I'm going with this.

GamePlay Video!!!

Please Right Click and click "Save as"

-This video shows the game in action, you can see how the ship is controlled more then the trailer, and you can see how the enemies behave, etc. The framerate was dropped to save space, so it is MUCH smoother in real time then recorded.I've also done a bunch of updates (new ship, bigger enemies)

Hope you like!!

looking good Matt - time to replace that awful side panel though. ;-)

Looking pretty slick!

Looking decent. My first thought as soon as i saw it "make the background with several layers of paralax, and change the god awful side bar"

heh.. Yeah the side bar will be done by a professional artist whenever I get around to the part when I modify it. Right now my main focus is implementing all the hard features that deal with the game itself. Once I'm done with that I'll have a new side bar.
