IGLoader and Opera

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/IGLoader and Opera

Is there a method to get IGLoader running in Opera?
I've installed the IGLoader game loader and have a '31.1KB igloader.xpi' file in the Opera plugins folder.
However, I'm greeted with this message (after trying Grey Aliens link):
You will need to install the latest version of our Loader to play these games.

Also, clicking the empty [plug-in content] box shown on the link page produces:

It does work on IE though.

Opera is an NP-API compatible browser, so it should work.
Unless the installer doesn't check for Opera...

That one doesn't seem to work for me under Firefox, either.
(Probably just me.)

Edit:
Definietly just me.

it works on firefox 1.5 for me, it doesn't work in opera for me.

Click where it says "**CLICK HERE*** to install the game loader" - You need version 1.0.0.2 or 1.0.0.3

It will install the plugin for opera and does work with Opera 8.5. There are some known issues with the plugin background updates with Opera and we are working on them - I can assure you the plugin is compatible.

I'm using Opera 8.51, installed the application via the link you specified, but it still doesn't work.

Keep trying dudes! It's just some Java poop I'm sure ...

Perturbatio,

Do the Java Webstart demos work for you?

I've followed this (out-dated) Opera/Java Webstart guide but still no joy.

Java seems to be a complete nightmare to install.
I'm not sure WHAT I'm supposed to choose from the 2000 packages available. I *think* this is the right one:

Java Web Start 1.0.1

Jim, I got the same problem after going to GreyAliens link using FireFox.

I simply went to the main CloverLeafGames site and downloaded the igloader from there instead. Seems to work fine now. Give it a try.

Jason.

Still failing QS. I'm plagued with the 2 error dialog boxes mentioned above. I think its a Java installation issue. Online Java games do not start either.

In my Add/Remove programs list I have:

igLoader 1,0,0,3
Java 2 Runtime Environment SE - 1.4.2_10
Java Web Start

igLoader 1,0,0,3 is the correct version I believe.

Try this:

http://cloverleafgames.com/webbed/webgame.php?game_id=1011

or this

http://cloverleafgames.com/webbed/webgame.php?game_id=1020

I got java working with Opera (with a few teething issues), but I still can't get this working.

Grey,
I get the following from both links:

Pert,
I managed to get online Java games working too.
Have you got this entry in your Opera preferences?
I had to manually add this in:

Have you got this entry in your Opera preferences?

Yes I do, that's why Java works :)

Sorry guys, I'm only a user so I don't know the answers I'm afraid. Indiepath needs to post really.

This is not Java, sorry to dissapoint - I am working on a Java version though :)

Opera actually looks in the "Mozilla Firefox/Plugins" directory for the plugin, mine does anyway - I will investigate this more - Tim.

Is the file npigl.dll in that directory? When you list the Opera Plugins does it show "igLoader Plugin for Mozilla"?

What happens if you copy npigl.dll to C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins\?

ok, copying
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\npigl.xpt and C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\npigl.dll

to C:\Program Files\Opera\Plugins

appears to have resolved it (IronFist runs). However it does still complain about needing the latest version.

What happens if you copy npigl.dll to C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins\?

Bingo! That got it working. Thanks Tim.

I found npigl.dll in 2 locations:
* C:\Windows
* C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

Under Opera -> Help the plugins folder points to:
* C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins

I have Opera 8.5 build 7700 if that helps.

BINGO! Thanks people, I'll rewrite the installer to copy to that directory - if it exists.

Please ignore the Javascript prompt, for some reason it works okay on this machine but not on others - I will remove it.

New install files uploaded, will automatically detect if Opera is present and then install the plugin to that directory as well as Firefox and IE.

nice! Now they can play Iron Fist!

Grey,
I Gave Iron Fist a whirl. Like the retro stuff such as the scrolling text before the level begins.
I thought those objects flying out of the breakable boxes where doughnuts to start with (ha).

Your game kind of reminds me of C64 Bruce Lee too.

cool, the "doughnuts" are chinese coins which have a hole in the middle. People use to wear them round their necks or thread a string throught the middle to carry them. The scrolling text and blue ground with reflection was trying to emulate an Amiga copper effect. C64 Bruce Lee was cool, had an odd vibe didn't it?

Yes. Have you played Mark Rostens - Bruce Lee remake?
The character AI in there is great. The fighting/attacks rely on timing to beat the enemies. Yamo (green character) for example, performs a flying kick when you are near. I just back off then run and kick him to win.

What are your plans regards AI and attack methods for your game?

That bruce lee remake is so cool, I wonder if he'd be interested in making a windowed version :D

Could people tell me what registry entries they have for Opera? it seems to vary from machine to machine.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Opera Software >

- Plugin Path = C:\Program Files\Opera\Program\Plugins
- (other misc entries such as Create Desktop Icon flag)

plus various entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (I use Opera as default so *.htm etc point to Opera)

THanks. igLoader now locates the Opera Plugin Directory correctly.

Yeah I've seen the remake, it's good.
I really enjoyed Viewtiful Joe on Gamecube and was planning to have the fighting timing-based with blocks and also throws. I want kicks and punches at several different levels + heatbutt move. Weapons would also feature later on. Also the idea was the character would upgrade in speed and power (you can already get temp poewr ups that do this) and you'll be able to learn new techniques from masters you meet on your journey. I already mentioned somewhere that you'll get an Iron Fist upgrade which will be for smashing blocks and doors etc to access special areas, kinda like Metroid upgrades that let you go to new places.
