Firstly happy new year everyone!
Secondly, a similar thread to this was posted on IndieGamer and it's good to keep you focused. Bascially list your achievements and failures in 2005 and your goals for 2006. Make sure IT stuff is in there so this thread doesn't go to the great recycle bin in the sky!
Achievements:
- Releasing my first commercial game, Xmas Bonus, which is now in the Reflexive top 50.
- Making 4 mini-games in Blitz Plus
- Increasing my contract programming rate by 20%
- Training up two Aikido students who then passed their black belt gradings.
- Not going mad with 2 boys aged 4 and 2!
Mistakes:
- Not being able to spend enough time really polishing Xmas Bonus before the release date.
- Making Xmas Bonus in BlitzPlus not BlitzMax
- Spending too much time making games and not enough doing contract programming thus losing income.
- Spending too much time on the PC and getting it in the neck from my partner!
- Getting addicted to programming forums, although this is a double-edged sword based on the knowledge gained.
Aims for 2006:
- Bolster my bank account with some contract programming, this will also keep the missus happy.
- Release Easter Bonus and some other variations on a theme I have up my sleeve. Plan to get this on more portals.
- Start using BlitzMax for new games!
- Team up with an artist (any offers?).
- Have enough free time to spend with my partner and kids and also to play a few games myself!
- To go for 2nd Dan in Aikido.
Long Term Goal:
- To derive income from making games either on my own or as part of a good team (I would prefer this) so I can stop contract programming, and to move to a cheaper hotter country!
P.S. What are you drinking tonite (or are you T-Total?). I'm on vodka and coke, ah.
