Any genius font-recognisers here?

If any of you are designers and can recognise fonts easily or advise on similar fonts, could you do me a favour? I want to emulate the font used for the main title on the recent remake of Alfie - it can be seen at

If anyone can help I'd be really grateful!

I found a few that where close but no cigar, then got extremely bored because my fonts directory really is rather large... I got to B though, which was no mean feet:

Close:
Belfast Heavy
Blue Ridge Heavy

Caslon semi-bold is close... [type Alfie in the box]

- if you cut the tops etc. Thing is that movie and whatever titles often are "processed" to a logo and might not be exactly any font after that. Or it might be a certain font, trouble is finding what. :)

I went through all the fonts I have. It's a lot like Georgia, a little like Times New Roman.

In Microsoft Word there's a font called Elephant that looks like it.

I think they actually edited a font to get it, because if you look, you'll see the dot in the i is also the dot at the end of the top curve of the f.

Heres a recreation of the Alfie thing using Elephant - the dot of the i was removed but thats it.

Well, it's close but not exact. As swifty says, it's probably been modified, anyway.

Pretty ugly modification if you ask me... The f looks quite messy. It's missing a chunk in the middle...

i don't see how matt's is at all like it....

The I's and L's have a flat top in matt's and a slight upward curve in real deal... And the e is off too....

but.... The f in the site's alfie is edited, it doesn't fit the rest of the font, it is off size, and likely the I and L are edited as well

Well, exact enough for my purposes. It's just a lame-ass pastiche of it I'm doing.

..does an auto-recognition of fonts from an image file you provide. I've used it a few times and it's never yet put a foot wrong.

It will ask you a bunch of questions about various letters of the font look like (multiple choice, with graphical examples) until it can narrow it down for you. It's surprisingly good.

It identified the 'Blitz' logo font as 'Aardvark Bold' (which seems to be a very close match)

Just regarding the lowercase fi thing that sswift brought up

That is a actual character in any proper serif typeface known as a ligature

it is there because the rounded part of the ascender of the f looks strange when the dot from a i is next to it so the ligature is a merged fi character to sort this issue out.

All those years ago as a professional typographer finally mean something usefull
