Rule of Roses - a controversial horror game?

Saw this in another forum. Apparently its suppose to be a errie japaneese horror/survival type game comming out for the PS2 (ps3?) but it just happens to feature what appears to depict minors (children?) in......odd.... situations which seems to entice a sexual theme. I hear its creating quite a buzz....

Not that unusual for Japanese entertainment.

I've got a horrible feeling that there there is either no lower age of sexual congress in Japan, or it's just quite a damn low one. I was only told this (by a man in a pub ;-) so correct me if I'm wrong.

Grey... I believe the age of consent is actually normal... I think 16 or so... They are much more lax when it comes to animated depections of such behavior than we are. I've seen lots of hentai that deals with taboo subjects even for the japanese, and that is their appeal.

Facts remain, small digital children aren't real children, therefore in japan it isn't such a HUGE deal.

If they were real children, the creators would be in jail already.


We have our own tollerations, looks at the film Lolita. and various others... We just do like to take out adult actors and actresses and show them in these bad situations as if they were children... that crosses the line... But watch Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, some time.... full of incest, rape, child porn, sex slavery, and all manor of abuse. And it gets quite close to showing things... as close as the censor board will allow them.

Ok so its not a big deal in Japan....but perhaps what if this game were to come to the US.......

The Japanese pschology is so fundamentally different as to be more or less incomprehensible to the average westerner. You cannot make moral judgments against a complete society when you have no idea how they think.

However, Battle Raper 2 for PSP is on dodgy ground as far as I'm concerned. Again though, it's digital, it's not real.

Nothing is more terrifying than evil children and dolls. All the films that have really scared the sh*t out of me as an adult contained evil children or dolls in one form or another.

I reckoned that if evil spirits possesed children, the most repulsive acts of sexual and violent nature would be on the list. But, isnt that what evil spirits do?

This game isn't for children and its obvious that if it comes to US it will be stamped with ERSB Mature/Adult Rating.

I'm certain that the controversy will stimulate arguments like "this game will excite the pervs!" But, No-one is arguing a playground full of laughing children excite the pervs too.

All the good Japanese games stay in Japan. The west only gets the lesser games, like Final Fantasy.

Well I must confess I'm no expert on paedophilia, but I somehow doubt anyone could get sexually aroused by psychopathic children on a murderous rampage. I definately think the playground is the bigger of 2 evils.

According to http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm, the female age of consent is 18, which is actually much more conservative/backwards compared to western 'enlightened' civilisation.

keep in mind that nudity in Japanese culture and sexual intercourse are two distinctly different things... It is in the western civs that we equate nudity with perversion and sex... and that more recently.

There have always been prudes that objected to the nude bodies. My grandmother, herself, would not look up at the ceiling of the sistene chapel when she toured the V because of the "dreadful nudes" painted by that "horrible homosexual" (oy! is it any wonder I am so twisted???) ;)

I myself taught Art in the MIddle Schools only to have to retire when a group of idiots (you might call them parents) objected that I was showing pornography in my classroom. What was the title of the porno? Madonna and Child by Raphael.
