yeah, that 2007 cooming soon near your PC if you can handle it. I think gameplay sucks, but those graphics are real time and I as CG hobiest appreciate that now we'll be able to run graphics like that in realtime on good machines.
I have seen this before. The 7800 can already pretty much run it at decent speed, especially in SLI, i think. It's a milestone.
Thanks for your interest in Google Video.
Currently, the playback feature of Google Video isn't available in your country.
We hope to make this feature available more widely in the future, and we really appreciate your patience.
WHAT THE...???
>WHAT THE...???
LOL
heh. Man.... Shame its such a generic boring looking shooter.
It's not the game that interests me, it's Unreal Engine 3. Of course, a license is going to cost mega $$$. I can dream though :)
Generic boring shooter or not, it's pretty, and it will sell based on that.
The video ran at such a low resolution for me that aside from colour crash it looked like Spectrum graphics.
I wont be getting excited regardless though as I find that gameplay-genre quite dull :/.
Ditto.
The video looks bad because of low res. Really. I've seen other videos that looked much better, higher res too.
But you can see in the end scene, the whole room is lit behind him as he runs from the fire to the window, yet he has a crisp sharp shadow as if its a point light. *sigh* When will we have radiosity and area shadows?
Me? Spoiled?
Ye ye i know, 7800 supposedly has fake radiosity but thats not quite it. I still havent seen area (scatter) shaddows in real time.
heheh...they can never get rid of that "holy @#!*" screams......
WHAT THE...???
Wow, that has got to be the first time in history that Australia has gotten something before any other part of the world ;]
Well, I must say the graphics look crap. Of course that's the video's fault, it was too low res to see anything that looked nice... the only thing I could notice was the animation on the bloke before it went to first person view. Which was very fluid and nice. But what on Earth can anyone get out of this video other that?
I base my opinion on the other much higher quality videos.
With todays hardware it isn't that hard anymore to get close to photorealism. EG. the xbox360 has already some titles with more than 1.5 Million Trianlges rendered per frame. In high definition resolutions, of course...
Considering this, it looks like a rather tricky job to make 50kTris Maps look good. Which is what I still like to do for some reason.
unfortunately they still use all that great technology to make a game where people shoot eachother, without ANY innovation on that part.
Hmm, I know the video was low-res but it really shouldn't have escsaped your attention just how many polygons must have been in that level, nor the fact that the level was fairly huge even though there was quite a high level of terrain and object detail.
Sure, we couldn't see how much texture detail there was, but this is a fairly secondary consideration. RAM usage increases as a function of the square of texture detail so I doubt that we will see much improvement unless ATI and Nvidia figure out how to shove 2 gig of RAM on a card. 1 gig will only provide a small incremental possibility of improvement (IMHO). We will need 512MiB+ just to run Vista nicely ;)
That the demo was running on a PS3 interested me somewhat. I'd be surprised if the PS3 had less than a gig of RAM.
I agree with you all. Every post and word.
Catchy title. When's it out?
Hehe, Malcom got older i see ^^
IMurDOOM
Grrr, this annoys me. Sure, there were plenty of polys, but the explosions looked like bilboards yet again (when will we get away from that?) and similarly, so did all the effects. Isn't it about time we used some clever volumetric techniques?
Isn't it about time we used some clever volumetric techniques?
No, not really. There are depth sprites, but we're still not able to use them without some noticeable problems last I checked.
With the introduction of DX10 we may have an alternative to it thanks to geometry shaders, but it's early days yet.
You wanted volumetric realistic explosions in real time?
I give you just that:

Don't volumetric sprite-based renders require about a bazillion times as much RAM than 'billboard' versions?
Personally, my first gape at the 2007 video was caused by the far more realistic looking explosions.
