netgear and port forwarding

Anyone got a netgear rp614v3 router? I'm having problems getting it to forward some ports.

It's upgraded to the latest, inofficial, firmware. (6.1, you have to mail netgear and ask them for it. :P This problem also appears with the official 6.0 one)

This is how I tried to forward the port:

* advanced > port forwarding
* Add Custom Service
* [ ] Enable is checked
* I entered a service name
* I added 8187 for starting and ending port
* I entered the correct lan IP
* I clicked Accept

However, when my little blitzmax networking test is running, I cannot telnet into this port using my external IP, and my friends cannot reach it.
I can telnet to it using 127.0.0.1 or using the lan IP
If a friend scans my ports 8187 doesn't show up

It's driving me nuts! One user on the netgear forum had a working solution, and that was to unplug the netgear router and go buy a linksys. Sounds tempting but I cannot afford it at the moment with all christmas shopping and whatnot.

So, anyone know how to fix this without spending money? Grateful for any help.

Your router seems to be configured correctly, I have it configured for vaiorus services (FTP, HTTP, HTTPS) and it will work on this router.

Make sure a firewall is not blocking the incoming port (including Windows Firewall), remember the default firewall policy is to block all incoming traffic.

Make sure that the PC is using the router rp614v3 as it's gateway.

Reboot the router after the changes are complete.

Check your ISP doesn't block any incoming ports.

If you've done all that and can get out on that port you should be good to go.

(Prefaced by the fact I don't have this router, but a different netgear product)

On mine after adding a custom service you have to add a firewall rule using that service. I don't know if this applies for you.

A firewall is not the issue, I think. OSX got one built-in and I'm unable to reach the port with or without it being activated.

I'm not good at networking stuff but I do think that OSX is setup correctly. Everything else except port forwarding works just fine.

The router is rebooted. By presing that small button on the back, and by unplugging it completley.

I don't think my ISP is blocking any ports. But I guess I should mail them and ask just to be sure.

And finally, I have been searching around on google for solutions to the problem. Haven't found anything that solved my problem yet but I'm going to continue searching.
