King Kong Game Too Dark

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/King Kong Game Too Dark

This BBC article has the boss of Ubi saying don't play it on the XBox 360, what a c*ck up! Talk about failure to test properly.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4525318.stm

The Ubisoft boss said the team who made the game used certain settings on high-definition TV screens.

It did not occur to them that there would be a problem with standard televisions, which are what most people use to play console games.

:)

Well, well. WHoopsie eh?

I need to get this game. I wouldnt buy anything for X360 yet anyway :)

check the reviews, it wasn't totally hot just good (8/10 level).

A lesson to be learnt by all.

couldn't they just turn the brightness up?

couldn't they just turn the brightness up?

If its a gamma issue the turning up the brightness on your TV would make little difference.

I can't believe that no one at Ubi never ever thought about testing it on a normal TV. Great quality control there, NOT!

King Pong.

I love how they made the worst Nintendo DS game ever of this movie franchise.

Gamespot totally slated it (the DS version)!

thats as much MS's problem as Ubi's since console manufacturers charge a fortune for QA testing. During which they are supposed to tell you what needs to be fixed in order to get released on the machine.

If you get it for PC therese a hi definition version thats download only which has enhanced graphics. dual 7800GTX recommended for all graphics set to maximum

Another problem that some of the xbox360 games have ran into apparently is that the text can occasionally be too small to read on a standard TV (resolution too low).

You would think that developers have the common sense to test with a standard TV that the majority of their customer base will be using as well.

hmm,

you'd have thought after the debarkle with lap top screens quite a few years ago, they would have learned from that! Ah well,

IPete2.

As far as images being too dark -- I tend to have the opposite problem. Due to the eyestrain and such I have my own screen set fairly dark, so I need to keep checking to make sure that graphics I create myself won't look too bright and washed out on other systems.

I definitely miss gamma-correction features in BlitzMax. :-?

Gamespot has said this issue is bogus. They played through the game both ways and said it was completely fine in SD. The only thing they thought was perhaps the PAL version might not look the same in SD for some reason.

there's a Xbox V's Xbox360 King kong comparrison at

with screenshots.

And you can buy a downloadable version of Kingkong for PC which is supposed to be like the 360 version and different from retail. Only you need a 7800 to get the most out of it.

It's called the High res version and exclusive to a online vendor in the US.

here's a 7800GTX screenshot

I remember the TRex in Tomb Raider. Also, anyone remember the TRex on the PS1 demo disk?

That 360 dino shot is impressive, assuming it's an in-game shot. It does look more like a painting rather than photo-realistic, though. I guess it's just the graphics style they were going for?! *shrugs*

Yeah it does look like a painting, also it's pixelly on the edges, must have been low res no AA.

yeah, thats actually the downloadable PC High res edition. Not retail boxed. check out the minimum specs!!!!

*gulp* I don't think my PC could even run the installer! :/

Heheh. Those specs are utterly ridiculous. Bloatware to the maximum.

Thank god it's XP only! Now I don't ever have to consider running it. :)

Also, I can barely tell any difference between the X-Box and X-Box360 shots, it would help if it was actually showing the same pictures.

I think it is showing the same scene from each version, ENAY. The 360 version just has alot more detail.

The rain looks better on the original X-Box pic.

yeah, youy can also see what they mean by the darkness in the 360 version.

looks like their HDR combined with other effects was a little too contrasty.

Right you people, that's enough, my urge to get this game is increasing dramaticly. Yes I remember the T-Rex scene in Tomb Raider, and it scared me, I was like **** what should I do??? I love gaming moments like that when you have a split second to think then act on it, I just kept on jumping backwards shooting it with a shotgun, unfortunately my first tactic to defeat the T-Rex wasn't 'hardcore gaming' as I fled like a baby. I've just started playing Call of Duty and I'm loving it, it reminds me of Medal of Honour with added haste.

lol. Me too... swearing copiously as I went. Great gaming moment. :)

Man, I want that special one for the 7800. I don't have 2GB or RAM though ... just 1 ... what the heck!

This looks amazing!

Am I the only person then to think that this game looks boring as hell just like every other movie spin off release, regardless of which version of the game looks better?

It's pretty darn fun to play. It also recieved good reviews. Additionally, the movie was amazing and I can't get enough. So, to tell you the truth I did feel that way before I saw the movie and played the game but now I feel very different. Also, I want to push my new graphics card and this Kong game looks really good.

Wonder what method they used to render the fur - in the game, that is. Doesn't look too convincing from that screenie although I guess it also 'moves' convincingly?

you can always try the high def. I hear its quite scaleable. And probably will run with less than 1GB of ram. I'm going to search on google see if anyone has experience of it on lesser specs.

I want that game too :).

The movie got good reviews, bit long apparently like LOTR, but that might be OK.

There's a demo?

http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=1405

someone said 20 - 25fps on a 1gb 3ghz machine with 256mb 6800GT when set to low detail when not too much happening on screen. But that can be halved when busy.

Aww, look at the big monkey!

That download is not the high res version though?

Stop being so lazy, and try finding it yourself?

LOL, there's just no demo for the high res version .... don't you think I searched before you listed that! Sorry, I just thought you found something that I missed perhaps.

Indeed. Can still download the demo and test your fraps before purchasing it, and test if it's worth purchasing at all.

Nope... Don't play them myself... and don't watch movies based on the games either...

Laughed so hard I almost wet myself over the DOOM movie...
