Quaver - The Musical Adventure
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Quaver - The Musical Adventure
I have just completed a web game (in Flash 8) called "Quaver - The Musical Adventure". It has an original storyline, took four weeks to develop and has gone live this week:
For those interested go to (and look for NEW click here to play Quaver - The Musical Adventure):
http://www.tunein-nyorks.org/intro.htmSimply start a "NEW GAME", enter your name and away you go. The game is aimed at the 0-6 age group with an adult supervising, and features 8 'sub games/toys'.
Let me know what you think.
[edit] Should be working okay now.

Neat I only played bass and strings, but it seems very nicely put together.
Somethings I noticed: It's a bit wordy for small kids. I know the thumbs up icon glows on the first page but I didn't really notice, I only figured it out when I read the text. Professor Chords shadow moves with him when he wobbles in the intro, weird. On the map, when you hover over the double base location the red bit goes yellow but not if the cursor is on the double bass, same with the violin, maybe it should still go yellow. It would be cool if when you win an instrument, it plays an example for longer, like the bass one would be ool if it did the whole 12 bars (blues) and the violin one could do a bit more, this would make it more rewarding, well I'm a musician too so maybe I just wanted to hear more!
[edit] It loads very quickly which is good (well instantly) I noticed that when you win an instrument it grows/shrinks over the original static picture of the instrument (bass/violin), this is weird.
Lol!
Glad you basically liked it, yes it is wordy - hence the need for an adult - how do you do an adventure game without some explanation - especially with younger kids that explanation needs to be simple to understand and cover everything, don't assume anything! lol.
The rabbit is suppose to draw your attention to the thumbs up sign, and as it flashes too - I think that's a good indication that it will do something if you click it.
The instruments music is just a taste really, a little reward for playing and winning the instrument. I'm not a musician, but I have a synth and I thought it would be nice to add a little sound in at this point.
The growing/shrinking of instruments is just to draw your attention to what you have won, the size is quite small so I animated them to help kids understand they have got them already. Again younger children lover to see colour and movement, so thats why they are like they are, and I guess not all adults will be games players, so again I was just being cautious to ensure a good experience for the players.
Oh btw it should be up and running correctly now, it is a UNIX server and there were issues with the filenames being uppercase/lowercase - should be sorted.

It was just the very fist thumbs up sign when it's first loaded (bit small), all the rest were fine.
Add longer music!
the growing/shrinking is cool, it's just that you can see the old shape underneath it.
Good luck with it.
Grey,
Cheers, it is in the hands of the client now, so thanks for the luck.
I'll keep you posted!

Oh I didn't realise it's off to clients now, anyway good luckx2.
It's pretty good! I noticed the strange highlight in the map too, only a certain colour is highlighted. Played three games and had to get back to work - it's a bit boring for me but a child will love this kind of game ;) good work!
Mmm Quavers! They're floaty light.
That's Skips, not Quavers. :)
When I was a kid I sent off a number empty Quaver bags and received a fantastic Quaver stunt kite...Woohoo...
...True story that... ;o)
Nice one IPete, although, I was hoping to be treated to a nice concert at the end. 8o[
Ha Ha Made you look! :P
I know everything there is about pointless slogans and food packaging. You'll have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch me out sunshine.
Big10p: bah u made me look!
