Tonite I shall be mostly playing COD2
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Tonite I shall be mostly playing COD2
PC Version: bought it today for £19.99. Loved the first one and mission pack, so really looking forward to getting absorbed in this one. Saw it on an XBOX 360 in-store, it just looks like the PC version. Saw Quake 4 for £19.99 but got this instead. Also got Metroid Prime 2 for £12.99, that was a pretty good deal.
Now I'm not programming Xmas Bonus anymore, I can actually play a few games for a few days.
I wonder if he bought it in 'Game'?
yup. and MP2 in Game Station.
I might have COD'n'chips
COD'n'chips sound better!
I am just about to install Quake4 after finishing F.E.A.R.
F.E.A.R. was really good, but probably not something I will play again, It's a great game but such a depressive atmosphere is hard to get addicted to...I just wanted to get out of there and was glad when I eventually did =)
Well, just played Quake4 for an hour, initial impressions.
Main gripe...major gripamundo! you can't adjust the music volume and sfx/voice volume separately which basically means 'I can't make out a word they are saying!' -.-
What do I do now? I've no idea, I'm just going to go places I haven't been before and shoot anything that moves because I haven't got a clue what is going on =/
Graphics are very stark...very high contrast and on my system 2700+AMD and Geforce6800GT it wants to run at 640*480...looks pants....which doesn't look as good as pants on head! ( so I'm told ;) )
The enemies you kill disappear after a few seconds so you don't get a good look at what you actually killed...why can't they stay there rather than vanishing?! >.<
After selecting 800*600 res I tweak my monitor settings to stretch/centre the screen so it suits that resolution and when the game exits to my normal desktop res of 1024*768 its totally messed up! Screen is stretched and not centred like it should be -.-
I know I said I wouldn't play F.E.A.R. again but now I'm having second thoughts lol
I tried to give Quake 4 a chance but it just ended up sucking. The 'being dark' thing really got to me when I got to an outside area where you have to run through wide trenches. Despite being outside, all the shadows are black. Totally, utterly, black.
Hello? Can you say 'global illumination'? Looked totally artificial and was hugely distracting.
Notice how so much detail has been given to light and shadow casting, but you never once see light being reflected in a mirror onto the surroundings.
I saw a screenshot for Doom3 before it was out where the marine was in a bathroom stood next to a mirror. There was flourescent lighting hanging from the ceiling. I though to myself at the time "now, have ID been clever and done another render pass with the light reflected in the mirror, treating the mirror as a window so that it gets cast onto the floor?"
They didn't.
I just finished Quake 4. I liked the atmosphere, but I'm not sure I'll play it again. COD2 on the XBOX is fun. :-)
I got COD2 free with my video card, it looks pretty amazing, plays well as well.
OK COD2 is very good, nice. I was worried Quake 4 might be as dark as Doom3 cos the total black thing peed me off.
btw, Metroid Prime 2 is very good also!
First few levels of COD2 go quite quick, and the hide to avoid dying when hit thing is weird but it is still great. It's kind of a shame it's so well paced as I haven't got time to stop and look at the really cool graphics. Some of the smashed buildings and rubble etc are very well done. Alos there is this level when you are in a big pipe, and the germans fire machine guns at you and they punch holes in the pipe and the light shines through, this is very well done!
Nearly finished the Brit campaign. The tanks were great fun. Is the tank bit anything like Battlefield 1942 which I haven't played yet?
Grey,
What's the multiplayer side like? I was lookign at Battlefield 2 and COD2 today - I bought The Movies instead - but I may buy one of these others too.
I am really much more interested in the multiplayer online game aspect though.
IPete2.
IPete2: Haven't played it yet, still doing the SP missions which are great.
hehe, im doing single player first as well so i dont get pwned too bad when i go online.
I've played loads of these games but not for about 6-12 months so I had to get used to the whole fire, duck, reload thing again as opposed to: stand in the open, shoot off one shot at a advancing german horde, realise clip is empty, remain standing and reload, die. Also this game has loads more grenades than other games I'm sure, you get really good at dodging them. It's wuite funny when you first meet a load of germans holed up behind something, they throw grenades and so do you and it's like showering grenades + you squad members pick them up and throw them back!
IPete: The multiplayer is analagous to that of CoD1, in that it has none of the 'extra' (ie fun) stuff of CoD:UO - notably vehicle use and ranking. It's a step backwards in that regard.
Still, it's fun for what it is.
Battlefield 2 is too addictive, too good, and should come with a health warning.
