Blitz Basic on your keychain!!!

Well, I got bored today and decided to try the impossible...

I actually installed Blitz3D on a simple Memory Stick!

That's not even the best part.... It actually works on other machenes!

the momory left on this small keychain-floppy like device is still 56mb of free space, so this would be hell'ova use on computers that you wouldnt be allowed to install the software (aka: on the job, a library, other family members or friend's computers)

Now I dont know if the Blitz team would be happy about my little experiment, but if they are, I will discontinue this path and gladly let them remove this thread..

But you still have to admit that this is quiet the leap into descovery (unless others have pulled this off)

You don't actually need to install it at all, you just copy the blitz3d directory and run it from the new location. No not that big a revelation really, although I'd never thought to try and run it off a pen drive.

I had B3D on my 512mb USB Cruzer Mini memory stick thingy - very useful for working on your game when you're away from home.

I can just imagine the look on not just my boss' face but those of my IT department if I sat there at lunch-time coding Spheres.

I would never live it down.

Heck, I'm just amazed of how far technology has come... I've only just recently started using these little memory stick devices (which came in handy when I needed to move large files from this computer to another before reformating my main drive)My uncle just told me that people could actually install Windows XP on a simple little memory stick (if it's in the high gigs) which now has me going mad with some big ideas

Only if your BIOS supports USB HD emulation. Try Linux instead - not only can you get away with much smaller install sizes, but GRUB will boot from many BIOSes that don't support USB HD emulation.

Generally tho' neither is recommended unless you intend to switch it between computers with similar (read: identical) hardware.

I did that so I could use it at school. It's not that big of a deal, unless you did it differently.

I used a version of blitzmax on a pen drive to port my game to windows.

I have BlitzMax(GUI), Blitz3D, Wings3D, Ultimate Unwrap3D, and WS_FTP95 on my 512 MB iPod Shuffle. It's nice having everything you need in your pocket :) (I wish photoshop would fit on there too...)

i used to run it off a pen drive at uni but it was a bit slow, using an external usb 2.5" hd now.
