Just looking to upgrade my graphics card on my main PC, could anyone tell me have they any experience with Blitz 3D, BlitzMax and games playing generally with this card?

You'll probably kick yourself if you don't wait and get a 6800 GS instead. I know they're more expensive but... dude, it's Christmas, treat yourself :)

I would agree except I can't seem to find an AGP version of that card.

I only have AGP so I'm stuck with the 6600 I think.

Overclockers are taking preorders for the AGP version. Patience, young padowan. The XFX version is clocked at 400MHz core, 1100MHz RAM. Far exceeding even the old 6800.

If I was stuck in the dark ages of AGP, I'd get the GS. Less than £200 for a pre-overclocked gfx card? Bargain of the century.

I would mention that 6600's are kinda OK. I was going to get a 6600 and a 19" TFT but instead I went with a 7800 and kept my CRT.

Apparently the latest graphics cards that are supposed to be PCI but selling as AGP, use a bridge in order to double the data for the bus. Using two heatsinks. Humm...

Ive noticed that some AGP cards are being priced way above the equivalent PCI/E card, some of the ATI cards have such a difference you could buy a new pci/e motherboard.

Yes there does seem to be a price difference between similar cards which is a little disconcerting. I will wait longer I think, maybe the price will come down after Chrixtmas?

On a side note, if you're buying an Intel CPU there's another reason to wait for late Jan/Feb, it's Intels end of year and they have frequently held off price reductions in the past until the years books where out of the way. Personally I use AMD now, so I dont worry about price any more, I just worry about what speed my computer really is...

Buy one in the January sales? That's what I'm doing.

The price difference is just a side effect of there being more demand for PCI-Express products. Economies of scale kicks in and drives the price of AGP parts up.

Not that NV mind, less people on AGP means more people in the market for their flagship products.

Regarding Intel, surely only sysadmins and middlemen who kit out new offices and workplaces with off-the-shelf PC's buy Intel based?

If I had £5000 to spend on a new PC, it would not have an Intel chip inside it I can assure you of that. More likely 4 dual-core opterons. not because I could use that much power, but just so that I could list it in my sig...

Well, I can tell ya, having an nVidia 6600 myself w/ 256 MB RAM w/ PCI-Express, as well as HDTV outputs, that going widescreen has not been better. Plus you don't need to break the bank to have either an HDTV OR HD-powered graphics card anymore, welcome to the holidays. It's showing off on my games without any hesitation, and there's no ghosting on my LCD whatsoever, nice to have a 32". Seems to go hand in hand.
