It's back... and it has John Pickford in it!

Retro Gamer (UK magazine) is back, with a new publisher (Imagine Publishing)! I received issue 19 today, my first of three "complimentary" issues. Doesn't really make up for the 11 issues missing from the subscription I paid for... but oh well.

Anyway, I digress. In my opinion it is better than ever! Some fantastic articles such as the lowdown on developer "Magnetic Fields", a profile of "Amsoft", and features on games such as "Dizzy" and "Simon the Sorcerer". Probably means nothing to you if you didn't grow up in the eighties in the UK though. They have also dropped the cover CD, which I am glad about (it never had anything you couldn't download easy enough anyway), and lowered the price to £4.99.

But also, it has an interview (part 1 of 2) with our very own John Pickford (and his brother, Ste) on pages 80 - 84! Their feature is even in big letters on the cover "PICKFORD BROTHERS - Industry veterans John and Ste fondly remember their favourite retro games". Cool!

It should be in the shops (well, at least WHSmith) in the next few days.

Warren, just turn sigs off in your account settings then you won't see any crappy pics. I've had it off for ages, ah bliss! :)

Nomen luni: I received a letter from "Imagine Publishing" explaining that, as an ex-subscriber, I would receive three complimentary issues. However, I assume this is because I only just subscribed (and received one issue out of twelve that I paid for!) when Live Publishing went bust.

No I didn't have to re-subscribe, but they mentioned in the letter something about being grateful if I took up a subscription - yeah... right!

The annoying thing is, I bought 17 issues of Retro Gamer from the shops, then decided to subscribe. I received issue 18 and then they went bust! Terrible timing, eh?

lol. Yeah, i bet they'd be grateful. To be fair, it's not their fault it went bust last time, if it's a new publisher, but once bitten, twice shy, and all that. :)

Not much in the way of a definitive yes/no about my pic. It's staying, for now.

Grey Alien: Can't please all the people all the time. I'll keep the slow version for a while. I might just set up a cron job to put different versions in there every now and then. It is a recent montage, I was testing how long the rechargable batteries were lasting (they lasted good).

I've been checking at the newsagents with the hope it'd maybe come back, so that's great news.

Pity that we'll have to wait three months for it to arrive here of course.

Funny thing - I've discovered the mag at issue 8 when I got my last job. And when I quit my job - same month was the "last" issue of RG! 8-0
I've been unemployed since, so maybe if RetroGamer is back - I'll get a new job?

I read it and find out that the first issue is published already! Great news!

That animated pic was so annoying that I told my ad-blocker to block it... Only time I ever told it to manually block something.

Sorry to have to revive this one from the depths, but for those interested, Retro Gamer has finally hit Canada.

I picked up a copy at Maison de la Presse Internationale in downtown Montreal, so those in English provinces are bound to have it by now too.

Those of you south of the border may want to look for it too.
