Woooooo my game's nearly ready for release!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Woooooo my game's nearly ready for release!
OK, I've been hard at it for ages now and my first commercial title is about to go beta. Publisher is all lined up so it'll be on one site and hopefully some portals too, how exciting! It's a christmas puzzle game, nice and cheesy, but very polished (blow own trumpet). I still got to make another 50 levels tonight and tomorrow so I can release it with 100 levels.
When I release the beta if there are any major things duff I'll try to change them to increase likelihood of sales but I can't make lots of little tweaks (these always seem to take the longest) or I'll miss Christmas! It really is quite an interesting deadline Christmas because you can't move it! Also I have to release it early enough so that I'll actually make some sales. Ideally it would have been out before but you know how it is, work/partner/kids etc.
When it's released (aside from fixes and improvements) I look forward to actually relaxing in my spare time and playing a game ... yes a game! Maybe a bit more of Diablo 2 (it's practically endless) or maybe someone will buy me a nice new game for christmas (FEAR, Quake4, ResiEvil4 etc), mind you I still have a big stack of (old) new games ready and waiting.
Anyway watch this space ...
woooooo
Good luck Grey. I know the feeling of that level designing stage. It's so tedious. 100 levels hey. I got fed up with 25!
Good luck! Is there going to be a Mac release?
Thanks guys, I'll need it. Just gotta slog through the level design.
deps: Sorry no, It's in Blitz Plus not Max :-( Try and play on a friend's PC or work PC :-)
I have a PC too, but it's an old p3 600mhz with geforce 256. Will that do? :)
Get a good game such as Civilization 4, not Quake!
Deps: YES it will, I made loads of optimisations do it'll run on lower spec machines, tested it on a 600MZ Laptop with 8MB video card on Friday and it was fine.
Lenn: When I bought Civ II, I forced myself to lend it to someone else so I could reclain my life, so I won't buy 4 as it'll be dangerous.
Cool, well done man. I hope that works out well for you!
Well done! I've never been able to complete a game since I'm no artist, and I don't have enough money to hire anyone, and none of my artist friends will do anything for free...
congrats... go go go!!!

Thanks for the positive vibes guys, I've gotta go and finish making levels this morning. I'll let you all know how selling the game goes.
Way to go, Grey!
I'll let you all know how selling the game goes.
let us know about *the game* too! no url, screenies, anything yet we can see and drool at? :)
You can drool really soon, gotta clear it with the publisher first.
50-level Beta has gone to the publishers, gotta make 50 more levels today for the retail version!
50- levels- on one- day-
Dude, thats like, two an hour! I hope theyre not large! :)
no they are small, takes a couple of minutes to make one and 5-10 minutes to test. It's not a FPS shooter you know.
don't worry about us right now... focus on your work...
you can update the forum when everything is wrapped up...
don't post any pics or info that might compromise the publishing contract untill you are explicitly cleared to do so...
we can wait... :)
and, again... good luck developer :)

hahaha... that's great... thanks a lot...

Good luck Grey!
I remember playing some xmas themed games as a child during the holidays, they were great! I'm sure it will go down well. It'll be great to see the finished result. Now, get back to making levels! ;)
Lol. Can I get a Yak level? :P
Come and get it here!!!
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=53946Cyg: some people used to call me Yak for some stange reason, it might have been the hair
Red: The sub's gonna be in teh full version not the beta I'm afriad.
Wahoooh downloading now thanks!
IPete2.
Grey Alien,
Wow that's Fabtastic!
I really, really like it Grey - great job. I got 3000+ on my first game, Richard my son likes it a lot too.
IPete2.
Grey: If you make a game that addictive again I'm going to be vexed.
I cannot afford to lose any more time to this damn PC!
Bah. One day, I'm going to make a game that eats up hours of your day. Hah!
Say thanks guys I really appreciate it! Hopefully the addictiveness will translate into sales with my target audience.
Ipete2: my sons like it too. The 4.5 year old can play it a bit and the 2 year old just likes pressing Q to make them all pop.
VP: just try it punk, ask yourself this, have I made only five or do I have another in the chamber? ;-) btw, did it time out at 60 mins or anything, I think its supposed to? Oh yeah did you try it on the Server with no sound, I presume my "don't crash on PCs with no sound" code worked then as I was unable to test it!
