Possible titles for my 'gauntlet remake'
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Possible titles for my 'gauntlet remake'
My Gauntlet Style Action Game/Remake is creeping ever closer to completion (no new download yet though) and I need a name for it. As you may see in the gallery it was called "Gauntlet Vengeance" but I probably can't use a name like that for legal reasons so currently it goes by the name of "Caverns of Rage" which I feel is fairly underwhelming.
So - I'd be interested in some possible titles for the game if people wish to list some.
Thanks,
Matt
Hauntlet Vengence?
Dungeons of Fury!
Wrath of <InsertSomethingHere>.
Swords & Dungeons & Monsters oh my!
Hack n slash in the haunted halls of doom
goblin head go squish squish
battle glove
forgotten halls of <insert name of the place here>
Is there a plot of some sort in your game? Some artifact to locate? Some big bad evildoer at the lowest level that needs some serious behind whooping? Maybe a good name can be made with that.
Ran Gamuts
or Gamuts Ran
or my favorite... Runned Gamuts
but thats technically not the right way to say it....
Bloodburn
Steel Fist
Demonfyre
Thud and Blunder
Murray <-- I always wanted to make a game named Murray
Onslaught
Armored Glove (i.e. a "gauntlet")
Wizard Needs Food Badly (everyone would know what game you meant)
Gaunt: Let Vengeance Reign
"Four Adventurers Walk into a Dungeon..."
How about "I know a game that'll get on your nerves"?
Just kidding ;)
How about "Super Happy Special Monster Battle"
Again with the kidding.
How about "Melee" or "Dungeon Killer" or "Deadly Dungeon"?
Gauntlet Venger
....sounds close
i think you're probably worrying too much, matty.
if its free then you can call it gauntlet vengeance no problem. dont forget how old the original is, the game is probably abandonware now, you should check that out.
and even if you want to sell it using the word "gauntlet" it should be ok too because its so old.
I like some of those, thanks for the response.
I know it's silly but I do like "Goblin Head Go Squish Squish", but also Armoured Glove and "Wizard Needs Food Badly!", Steel Fist as well as Thud And Blunder which sounds more like "Blood & Plunder" - maybe I'll call it that - "Blood & Plunder".
Thanks for the response.
Yes I can see it now - "Blood & Plunder - Goblin Head Go Squish Squish"
Blood & Plunder - Goblin Head Go Squish Squish
LOL
Looking forward to seeing this. I'm not a big "arcade" game fan (prefer strategy or RPG's) but I did enjoy Gauntlet. Although only when playing with friends... single player Gauntlet get boring fast (IMO). Which brings me to a question - will your game be multiplayer? I assume so, from the
screenshot in the gallery.
Devil Spawn Dungeons
"The famous four go mad down-under" :P
GAME IS WASTED MANY DOLLARS ON IN 1985... that would be a good title
Avon - game is multiplayer - up to 4 gamepads connected to the same pc can play all at once (which I've tried and is quite fun)
game is multiplayer - up to 4 gamepads connected to the same pc can play all at once
That's what I wanted to hear... bring on the demo! :)
How about "Warrior needs game"
No... I am thinking the original Wizard... title up there could just be Modified to:
WIZARD
needs food badly...
and it would sell.
Alternativley titles with the word BLOOD in them seem to sell no matter how terrible they are so:
BLOODWIZARD
thats my new contribution
Rook: I was trying NOT to deliberately use the same sample as in the game, but Badly could be appended to mine "wizard needs game badly" ;-)
"Glove me tender"
Avon - there is an earlier demo available here
Yoink! :)
LOL @ "Glove me tender"
Having a lookie now...
[EDIT] Argh - it ran fine, but I need to dig out my joypad to play it (so use to mouse & keyboard games... doh!). I don't have enough spare time at the moment, but will post my thoughts tomorrow evening.
OK but I still hold that if you manage to fit BLOOD in the title somewhere more fiends will get it! ;)
Matty, I've now had a chance to play the game - it's pretty cool, even at this early demo stage. Hopefully you have toned down the difficulty a bit... I died on level 2 - I couldn't find the exit! Maybe I am just rubbish. I liked the 8 way shot power up, but wasn't sure how I was getting it. I assume the in-game display panel (on the right) is just a temporary one?
The graphics and sound FX were good and overall it had a nice feel to it. Multiplayer is where I suspect it will shine, as did the original Gauntlet. I may get a chance to play it multiplayer at the weekend (assuming the demo supports it?).
The demo does support multiplayer but there are a few flaws with it (difficult to see all 4 players at times) that I have worked on. Other features and annoyances have been tweaked/fixed. The in game display panel on the right I've altered slightly although am not really sure what to do with it, I may eventually ditch it altogether and go for a different type of display panel..not sure at the moment. The various power up modes for each character are activated differently for each of the characters. They are done in this manner:
Warrior - kill a lot of enemies (not ghosts) by melee without using ranged combat and the power attack activates. (Heavily increased melee power damaging multiple targets at once)
Templar - kill a lot of enemies by any method and the power attack activates (8 way ranged shots)
Elf - hit a lot of targets (but not necessarily kill) with ranged attacks and power attack activates (spray of bullets in approximately the direction aimed in)
Mage - stand still for a certain amount of time (although can still fire and turn on spot) and power attack activates - (ring of bullets sprays out from mage in all directions)
At a certain point in the game, when a character reaches a particular score a more impressive power attack activates and the characters normal attacks are permanently upgraded also.
I am *probably* going to upload an update this weekend which contains music as well (although this will boost the download size a lot) (quite a few tweaks have been made - I think I said that earlier...)
The difficulty has not been toned down. I guess I should have expected it but I can get to the final level, but not always complete it, most times that I play the game, but then I know not only what to expect from each level but also the little idiosyncrasies of the game (read - gameplay flaws/bugs).
Cool, thanks for the info Matty.
I can get to the final level
What is the final level? I *think* the original Gauntlet had 250, and the "Deeper Dungeons" expansion added a further 250... or was it 500?
This is much shorter than the original gauntlet - there are about 25 levels in this version, with the final level being a boss level. I am unlikely to add additional levels but if I were to I would create them with the visual appearance of levels 13-20 and 21-25. 15 minutes is the shortest time it takes me to get to the final level although this time increases with multiple players unless they work together very well. I don't intend to make the game any longer for two reasons:
1. I intend for it to be a game that can be picked up and played for short bursts every so often
2. I don't have enough ideas for levels to add more without them just 'padding' out the game.
