Quake4 - F.E.A.R. - PRICE CRASH!!!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Quake4 - F.E.A.R. - PRICE CRASH!!!

Listen up UK people - I Larged into 'Game' today (the high street retailer)

They've slashed the price on Quake 4 and F.E.A.R. (and some other games) from £34.99 to £19.99.

I held off buying these 2 previously to buy them second-hand.

To buy them new I would have spent £69.98 - I have actually spent £39.98 - saving me a whopping £30.00 - which is cheaper than what they are second-hand in 'GameStation'.

The games are still currently being sold by other retailers for £34.99.

I think I might enjoy myself tonight - and play the games later

How do you mean "enjoy yourself" if not play the games? I suggest you dont do anything funny with the boxes, they can be sharp you know... Not that i would know...

And now tell me, who will buy a 15 pound Indie game, when they can buy Quake4 ? Even the price advantage we had is gone.

Bah, I have been stiffed. They are now doing them even cheaper.

F.E.A.R. is down to £14.99 for the next 5 hours or so:

I am totally gutted - I only bought it today - now they are saying:

RRP £19.99
Save £5.00
£14.99

When I bought it it was £34.99 RRP

Sniffage

You guys pay more for games than I do. That's kindof funny.

I paid $40 USD for FEAR on release. According to puki's prices, you're paying approx. $20 USD more.

woooh cheap, wish I had time to play them, sigh.

why the sudden price drops... holiday shopping incentives??

'Game' did this last year - although, a bit closer to Christmas.

I'm not supposed to be playing games, or being on the internet or in IRC - but I have to have a go on them.

You guys pay more for games than I do. That's kindof funny.

We pay 17.5% VAT in the store, we don't do tax returns (except for businesses obviously).

*EDIT*
Add to that the "UK import fee" because it costs more to sell games in our language and with our power requirements. ;)

Perturbatio - and there I was thinking it was just legalised government robbery. Oh well, that's ok then.

Americans don't have kettles.

Weird eh?

Get your company VAT registered, claim the games as research to save 17.5% and then write them off against profits to save 19% corporation tax, sweet. Plus if your company has bought them you haven't had to buy them from your salary which is taxed to the tune of around 23% anyway.

is that really true that americans don't have kettles?. that is weird man

Of course they do, I've seen them on cowboy movies, a big steel kettle on the "range". What the heck do they use now then, a pan? Is this because noone drinks Tea so they all have coffee makers and fridges full of coke and budwiser?

sure we got kettles mon... and we got lifts too...

... it's just that our lifts are in our shoes, to make us look taller than you Brits :)

hey mon...

Right, I'm off to have a go on my new games - I'll see you maggots later.

Large.

We've got kettles. We just don't have many electric kettles. You can buy kettles at Walmart.

But yes, mostly you will find coffee makers, and fridges full of soda and beer. I also have a kettle though, and I don't drink beer. Does that make me half english?

Wot?

Just bought both games the other day for £27 each.

Only loaded F.E.A.R. on so far and I must say its good, very good.

Brings back the same feeling as when I played Half-Life for the first time, very immersive and the graphics are the best I have ever seen.

I wonder will Quake4 equal or surpass it ;)

I'm playing Q4 first as I already played the demo for F.E.A.R. and really liked it.

Q4 is very Doom3 to me.

Looking forward to turning my attention to F.E.A.R.

I used to use my kettle to boil water for cup-of-soup.... but now I have one of those instant hotwater taps in my kitchen sink..... saves so much time... and is safer.

Well I've saved the most amount of money, I didn't buy either :)

Americans don't have kettles.

What the... O_o

That is the most bizarre thing I've heard today, aside from jfk's insane idea to link to Coders Workshop.

We do have kettles, we just don't have the 'advanced' ones because too many Americans will just buy prepackaged crap. (I haven't had a soda in about a year) As for my kettle, I use it on a daily basis.

F.E.A.R.

Is very, very nice

yeah, kettles are mostly the old stove top whistle blower type. I paid $100 for a 20 quid kettle here hehe
And the thermostat doesn't always turn it off either... Bloody thing!!!

Heh, this thread is alternating between games and kettles.

Large

I recommend F.E.A.R.

coz I like it

here's a pic of my high tech American cordless electric kettle, with dodgy thermostat in action :)

And I can get tetleys round tea bags these days too :P

I also recommend FEAR, the best single player FPS in recent history.

Quake 4 demo >> theres more gameplay in Morhuhn (where you shoot innocent chickens popping up around the screen)

Am i glad i grew up...

HAHA.

Evak, I melted one of those about ten years ago! The handle was gone and there was a hole in the base. (or it had just dried out :P)

switching a kettle on with no water normally kills it, plastic ones go VERY bad.

Yeah, let's talk about Kettles instead, more fun than these games anyway.

cost about the same though.

I'm getting this for christmas ( amongst other things I hope ;) )

er...

Alright, I'm going to include a Kettle launcher weapon in my next game.

No, really.

Why pay..

when you can get them for free?

I hope you're talking about free kettles and not games, nawi.

Where can you get thesse free ketteles? I think I may have to invent a P2P Kettle system, excellent!

You can all boil a bit of water at the same time making it quicker, though this sounds more like a distributed boiling system. Maybe we should submit the idea to the seti people.

I paid $100 for a 20 quid kettle here hehe
You paid too much. You can get electric teapots (kettles) for $20-$25 in most department stores like Walmart, Target, etc. I just bought a new one Thursday for my herbal tea needs, plus its great for hot chocolate :c)

And I can get tetleys round tea bags these days too
Why waste money on anything if all you are going to drink is Tetley tea? Tetley (like Lipton) is a cheapo brand that taste horrid. Calling that garbage "Tea" is almost as bad as watching men in silk panties and knee-high socks prance around on a field with a ball and calling it "Football".

Teapots and Kettles aren't the same thing.

As opposed to what? Calling a group armour wearing fools running around a pitch with a ball in their HAND football when it's a version of Rugby altered to make it craper and less tough, eg the padding.

yeah weird, electric tea pot? You boil the water in the kettle and then pour into the teapot with the tealeaves (if you're old fashioned). What the hell is an electric tea pot, sounds like an insult to the queen to me!

Teapots and Kettles aren't the same thing.
In the USA, an electric teapot and an electric kettle are the same thing. You use both to boil water for tea, coffee, etc.

I hate to break cold hard reality to you, but the picture he posted of what he bought isn't something "normal" people would use. He was VERY lucky to find that as here in America we literally quit using that style back in the late 1940's through the early 1950's. People really shouldn't be afraid of modern technology. I appreciate antiques and like antique furniture, but I do not know many people who insist on using antique appliances.

Hey, you guys invented Rugby, not us ;c) When Footbal was first formed off of modified Rugby rules, it was banned from most colleges because it was too violent and too many players were being hurt, which is why padding was added. If you have ever played, you would know the padding doesn't really do too much, which is why football has the highest injury rates and career-ending injury rates of any professional sport. Unlike soccer, Football is a real sport with real violence and real injuries. Just let a 340lb tackle put you face first into the dirt so hard your helmet is ripped off and then try to compare it to something like soccer where guys are prancing around in silk panties and knee-high socks. Personally, I am not fond of soccer or football.

What's soccer?
