BinaryZoo Xbox360 Geometry wars type game for PC
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/BinaryZoo Xbox360 Geometry wars type game for PC
Well this is interesting. A game called Mono for PC that resembles Geometry wars on Xbox360 Live Arcade.
I thought the name of the developer was interesting too, Binary Zoo. I wonder if GFK is responsible?
I noticed www.binaryzoo.co.uk is gone.
Havent seen or heard of GFK in quite some time. The game seems pretty cool, and avaliable from
http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/mono/index.htm
I do not think they are related.
well... a lot of you guys, especially 'the guild' members, are gonna eat your shoes when ya find out what this one was made in...

I dunno what it was made it but it looks really nasty - must have been BMAx :D
has a bit of a DB vibe to it... what is is red?
What's that doing that couldn't be done in Blitz?
if it was done in blitz it would look better. PERIOD!
Nah... it'd look just the same.
Na I swear Blitz looks cool, DB looks crap.
here weeeee gooooooooo again...
i don't know what's wrong with some of you guys... just the mere mention of DarkBASIC, and you immediately go into defensive mode...
...god, soooo childish.

Lol, wind up!
no he's totally right DB obviously stinks, I know nothing about this but I can feel the vibe!
hahahaha...

Red is sooo easy to wind up.
Ok...a fight you want...a fight you shall have ("english dubbed over kung-fu movie" accent)
Who's first?
Red needs more fiber in his diet, then he wouldnt be so grumpy.
sorry... was a lil busy...
ok, where were we....
hey, has anyone tried out the game yet... or are you all too s c a r e d of the big, bad DarkBASIC demon....
muuuuhhhahhahahahaar...

I'm at work... I'll give it a shot tonight after pool league. :)
Fog (the main coder at Binary Zoo) is a prime example of why developer is more important than platform whether it be DBP/B3D or C++.
I know Fog reasonably well and regard him as a talented programmer, his games are beyond doubt better than most of the B3D stuff in the showcase - the guy is the first to admit he can't even draw yet his games are better than most indi titles. What does that tell you about the relative power of DBP/B3D?
It tells me the whole debate is pointless. If your a useless developer you'll produce useless games, if any. If your good then you'll make the best of your ability regardless of the tools.
Personally I don't like using DBP. I'm a Blitzer and i'm not going back to DarkBasic but I see no reason to slate Mono or any other BinaryZoo game just because it's written in DBP - especially when BinaryZoo games pretty much dribble over the efforts of most community members here.
To say Mono would look better in Blitz is rediculous, the game may have shortcomings and isn't everyones cup of tea - but together with Duo it's been on more coverdisks and had more downloads than most of this community put together.
I think he was kidding about the looking better in blitz. Seriously. :)
It could look better but doesn't really need to, because of the kind of game it is. His choice of graphic style doesn't look forced or get in the way of gameplay so no complaints here.
Only played mono so can't comment on any of the others.
Wonder how Jeremy's Nebula Wars is coming along. That looks to be the closest thing done in blitz recently.
I was going to say it looks more like my Nebula Wars project then Geometry Wars because of the blur effects. I'm checking it out now.
I'm doing fairly well with that project but I'm having to dig deep to balance it and I have to get into the enemy routines and more. After spending a lot of time with Geometry Wars I can see how much trouble they went through to make it perfect. The game even got a good review on Gamespot.com ... even better than Mutant Storm ... which has more content really.
All of these games are in the same genre ... and it's an interesting one because it's deceivingly complicated.
It's pretty good ... it's got the motion blur but not the bleeding effect of Nebula Wars so it looks a lot different. I don't particularly care for the control scheme because I like to shoot in 360 degrees as movement can be modulated just fine with directionals. It's cool that you can move with the mouse but not my cup of tea to only be able to shoot via directionals instead of 360 degrees of freedom. Definitely addicting in the same manner as Geometry Wars but not quite as adrenaline pumping.
Waaay better game than Nebula Wars right now though ... hehe!
