Call of Duty 2 - Weird?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Call of Duty 2 - Weird?

I've been playing this the past couple days and got to the El Daba Mission ( the one where you radio in to bomb the harbour of a well-defended town occupied by the germans. )

I've done that got to a long alley with MG42's firing down it. There's a passage on the left that I've followed which ends with a barricade of wire and a car. I've managed to take out all the MG42 soldiers and then.. nothing.

There's a door just to the left of the barricade which is very, very slightly ajar. And when I walk past it, shots are fired from within. But I can't open the door by hitting it, shooting it or blowing it up and none of my men will open it either. One is dead on the floor near the door.

Am I right in thinking that one of my men should have opened this door ( probably the idiot that got himself shot ) and that there's a bug in the game and that I'm probably gonna have to restart the entire mission and hope it doesn't happen again?

Or is there something I should have done and haven't?

i believe you have to protect the two men

In the long alley with the MG42s I think you still have one German hiding behind the car.
You should then go down the alley to the left to find some germans running away (possibly from that door).

I went down the alley to the left right from the start, and killed the MG42 guys from next to the car. Maybe that's what screwed up the AI. It definitely didn't give me an objective to keep anyone alive and it certainly hasn't told me I've failed.

I guess I'll give it another go from the beginning without going down the alley at first. It's not one of the harder levels so far anyway.

Thanks guys.

I think there's another you can't see behind the car. You're crosshait goes 'red' (if you're using it) if you hover over the area. I simply blew the crap out of everything in the area. It's the same mission as supplied in the demo so I've done it that way a dozen times.

Nope, there's definitely no one behind the car. Already tossed a grenade over there to make sure.

Dear god...

are you talking about the demo Gabe?

No. Sounds like it's the same mission as the demo, but it's not the demo I have.

Confirmed that it was a bug. Played the level again, did exactly the same thing and this time one of my men kicked the door down before being shot ( key word : before. ) Either it should not be possible for the guy to be killed too soon or the mission should end when he does. Ah well, past it now.

I'm really enjoying this game so far - just completed the British mission where you defend the little desert town from German assaults from the hills - it all feels very epic and is great fun - having so many attackers and defenders makes a real difference, as normally in these games nowadays you only ever see 2 or 3 baddies at once - COD2 has 20 or 30 or more all running around and as a result it's superb.

Also, the smoke effects are really nice, the way they slowly expand after something big has blown up...excellent.

Agreed. Despite this little glitch, I've really enjoyed it so far. The open environments and large numbers of opponents and allies makes the game feel much less linear than most games of this type. Lots of nice effects too, as well as the fantastic smoke, there's also some very subtle depth of field effects and the great fullscreen blur when you get shot. It doesn't seem very different from the first COD, and yet I'm enjoying it a lot more than the first COD, which was decent in itself.
