Selling Models

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Selling Models

Well, in order to keep funds up for my game, I've got to do some 'real' work alongside my game. So, I'll be putting up models from time to time to sell. Currently, I have these:

Mushroom Pack #1 - 5ct - $4

*NEW*
Mushroom Pack #2 - 12ct - $4

Tombstone - $4

Prices aren't negotiable unfortunately, I make 3/4 of the asking price, so I have to make sure I get something for my work.

I'll post anything else in this thread. If you have any requests for stuff you want to see available, reply. If you want to post crits, by all means do so -- be as brutal as humanly possible. I may not always take it well, but I'll attempt to incorporate any and all advice and criticism into future work.

If a few mushrooms cost 25$, should games cost 500$?

Divide 25 by 5.

Prices on both products have been lowered to $4. All models I put up from now on will be $4 as well. Figure this'll be better now after some discussion with folks on the Truevision forum.

outstanding work, can I order 1 kilo of mushroms, do you ship to Europe?

They aren't the kind of mushrooms you use on a regular basis, maximo. They're more like the kind that you cook.

hah fool, I'll let you know that I don't plan to use them for anything else but for cooking ;) I'm not like you man, doing that what you suggest ;) I don't smoke nor drink, but yeah send me 1 kilo of those hahahah :D

Perhaps I will make a 1 kilo of banana and apples and put them up for sale for 5$. Man with your skills you should be able to do better then this. Be kind and report how well your sales are goind, should be interesting ;)

Why's a Star of David on the cross?

I used to sell mushrooms on turbosquid... but I found more people bought them if they were free.

Added another mushroom pack.

LOL

Nice mushrooms Noodle (no, seriously). A few of these scattered about would liven up a grassy terrain. $8 for both packs is sensibly priced too. The tombstone is also well done. I love the idea of you selling small models / packs for $4 - please keep them coming.

Why's a Star of David on the cross?

The star of David is one of its names but the pentacle/pentagram as a symbol has been used by many cultures.

To some it is a symbol that harks back to wiccan/pagan/celtic times, a symbol of witchcraft and also a symbol of the feminine side of nature, of birth/rebirth.

>a symbol of witchcraft and also a symbol of the feminine side of nature, of birth/rebirth.

also a simbol of everything in universe, every point being conntected to each other, so what's the problem ;) the soul in that grave returned to the other side and is connected to the whole and the simbol is for that, use your imagination people ;)

nice work noodie

Um... trouble is, the Star of David has six points, and a pentacle/pentagram has five points.

Good story though. :o)

Um, isn't the Star of David six sided and a Pentagram (by definition, notice the penta- prefix) five sided?

EDIT: looks like I was beaten to it.

Um, Noodle head, do you make custom 3D models? Say I needed some low poly knights/witches/archers etc. made up. What might you charge?

6 points you are right, looks like we all learned something lol

$25 was too much... but $4 is wayyyy tooo cheap...

but it's too late now... don't change it back, that would imply that you don't have the faintest idea of what you are doing... and, although we all here know that this is the case, you wouldn't want the general public to catch on... now would you :)

seriously though... your stuff is good... real good... and there are people out there paying big bucks for geometry out there that's not even half as polished...

don't undersell yourself and your work... i think that between $9.95 and $12.95 would've been the ideal price point...

plus your presentation... you've gotta show the product in a scene that is enhanced by adding your toadstools... show a before and after...

lastly... you can't afford to be lowering yourself into senseless arguements on these forums with non developers and/or potential customers... the non developers here will argue anything just for the sake of arguing... and the customers here and elsewhere... well, the customer is always right... period... regardless of whether they are or not...

follow these rules, and you can't go wrong...

hey... i realize you need to make some money, but i've found that if you center on the money alone, you will not make a cent... you've gotta look higher... you've gotta look at the whole picture... marketing is just one step in a grand plan...

i know... it's easy to sit back and lecture someone when i'm not walking in their shoes at the moment... hey, i'm just offering what i think is a few helpful thoughts on the subject...

good luck with your stuff...

About the Star of David as everyone seems to want to call it due to its religious nature, it's a star :P You don't have to interpret it as a religious symbol, just like how the cross is there. In specific, the cross is a celtic cross, but nobody is going to know that ;)

I don't put as much meaning into it as maximo seems to, but if you can come up with a reason it's there or just want me to replace it with another symbol of yours, I'll do it as long as you buy the model.

Red: Actually, as far as $4 being way too cheap, I think the volume of sales will be greater than that of a $25 model, thus making more money while being appealing to potential customers -- like $1 songs on iTunes and the like, it's just more convenient for people. Apple is definitely making more money off the $1 songs than the recording industry is making off of pressed CDs due to the prices.

Also agree on the presentation comments, still working on putting small scenes together to show how they add to the ambience.

is commercial use allowed with these models (i.e. in a game, obviously not simply re-selling the models)?

Yes, it is, don't worry :P I already checked out the license agreement, you're safe.

As for PayPal, I'm not sure. They obviously say it's supported, but aside from that I don't know that they actually offer it. Best thing I can suggest is contacting them :/

In specific, the cross is a celtic cross, but nobody is going to know that ;)

Actually, I did :)

Actually, I did :)

Well you're just creepy XD

Well you're just creepy XD

That, and Scottish. :)

yes, a Jewish symbol on a Celtic cross is a bit, erm, bizarre :)

Invert the cross and put a pentagram on there :)... that should drag a few strange people out of the woodwork. TTFN :)

Well at least Avon understood my attempt at Humor... if I ever make another "pack" of anything Avon it is yours... :)

Noodle,

This is like watching play your cards right....lower, lower, higher, higher!

lmao.
