Cloverleaf delivers game content in Firefox!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Cloverleaf delivers game content in Firefox!
Visitors to the Cloverleaf Games website can now play the "Webbed" premium browser based games in Firefox and compatible browsers. Powered by igLoader Technology Indiepath is set to push the boundaries of "Traditional" browser based games. This product is currently windows only; a cross browser version is in Alpha with MAC and Linux versions in early development.
IE users are currently supported by the excellent OSAKit.
well done Tim. Sold it to any big boys yet?
so what is "igLoader Technology"?
How does running a game in a browser handle filewriting and the like?
Slick! Too bad I can't see it in action (browsing using Safari on a powerbook.)
@Grey, My dad wants a copy :D
@Maximo, it's cool stuff that's what it is.
@Rimmsy, No problems with file reading and writing. The game is delivered as a packed .exe when it's executed you can create external files and reference them. So you could have a local highscore table or you could have various player profiles.
@jHocking - Soon, well as soon as I get my head around the Mac platform.
Are your games done in BlitzMax? Obviously it's irrelevant for Blitz3D games.
Tim: a copy of "you know what" (secret) or your Firefox plugin techonology (which is waht I meant in my question ;-)), the answer seems obvious, but I don't know your dad!
@jHocking, GEOM was Blitz3d and cBubble is BMAX. Frankly the plugin does not care.
@Grey, pardon? you confused me with that one.
Tim: sorry I was being elusive about a certain WIP. What does your data want a copy of, your Firefox plugin or something else? I wasn't sure he'd want a firefox pluging but you never know.
@Grey, My Data? You mean my Dad? It was a joke, my dad is a big boy (according to my mum) - YUK! And yeah WIP is soon to be a done deal.
Aha, I got confused with your joke. soz

If you have to develop three separate versions, doesn't that rather defeat the point of the web?
Plugin is hard to install on firefox here. I clicked your webbed game link and it popped up with a firefox plugin finder. I clicked the only option: manual, and it then redirected me to a control page on your website which did nothing.
I tried clicking the banner along the top (which warns about installing plugins) with the same results.
I'm trying to streamline the install process for the plugin but until my MIME type is registered it's going to be an odd experience when compared to IE.
Try clicking the bottom of the page where it says "***CLICK HERE**** to install plugin".

Versions of the plugin are needed for all platforms, but the content being delivered only needs developed once. Like how you only develop a website once, but different browsers are needed to view the site on different platforms.
OK people, one plugin fits all (windows only). I've tested this on IE, Firefox and Opera...
I've opted to push the customer down a manual install route on cloverleaf games - it's the least confusing.
I will supply the manual install package along with the .xpi and .cab files to all customers.
