monitor acting oddly

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/monitor acting oddly

I just turned my PC on and it seems to have lost my monitor settings - the PC thought it was a default plug and play monitor. Consequently the screen display was warped and stretched.

I altered the display on the monitor itself to get a square screen again, and downloaded the drivers and installed them, but it seems to be stuck at 60hz - there is a slight flicker to the screen. I've tried all screen resolutions (which change OK) and all refresh rates (which apparently change OK) but I can't get any difference to this apparent flicker - it almost as if every refresh rate is working at 60hz.

Anyone have any ideas how this could happen? It was working fine before I went out, when I turned it back on it's seemingly messed up.

Never mind, just found the ATI control panel had somehow reset it's maximum refresh rate to 60hz, despite me never having even used it before. What a piece of crap. Still it's working again now at least.

I just love the way your PC can totally **** itself just by being turned off...

This also happens when you install a KVM switch. I've spent half an hour before I figured out I had to increase the max frequency in the ATI tools. blegh.
