What games do you recommend I buy?

Its been a while since I've gone out and bought some decent games to play on my pc. I since upgraded from a Radeon 9800SE to a Geforce 6600GT but havn't got any of the more recent games to let it stretch its legs on. I'm looking for decent FPS type games, possibly RPG, so if you've played something worth while definately drop a line and tell me how good it was :)

Age of Empires 3 owns and should put your new GFX card to the test.

Call of Duty 2 is another top game that needs a meaty GFX card.

I recommend those 2 because I have them and they rule.

Thanks I'll check em out. I got Battlefield 2 today and its pretty cool too. I can max out the detail and still get reasonable FPS but I get stutters where its loading data into memory. I think I need more memory. I'm planning to get another 1024MB soon. Should help out.

Marble Blast Gold ($19.99, www.garagegames.com), sure it's graphics are out dated, but its incredibly fun.

for FPS I'd get Far Cry with the 1.3 update and HDR lighting enabled. It's really cool with HDR :)

Also Splinter Cell 3 has a lot of nice shader effects and is better than the first two and has HDR also

X3 reunion if you have a lot of Patience for an elite style space trading game

Age of empires 3 is pretty cool with nice graphics and havok physics for damage (another Game With HDR)

Earth 2160 has nice graphics but is a bit of a bore on the gameplay front

Doom 3 and Quake 4 both suck, unless you like simplistic twitchy shooters with no AI

FEAR is pretty nice looking and has great AI and Particle effects.

No decent RPG's around on PC, that I've noticed. I guess Oblivion is still due in a couple of weeks, but who knows if it will be a disappointment.

I had my eye on Fable. I remember playing a few rounds of it on one of the display XBox's at this convention place. I'm definately gonna check out FEAR. I have Doom 3 already, I have to admit after paying $100 for it I was rather disappointed. I'll have to take a look at Oblivion. Thanks for the heads up!

For multiplayer FPS, Battlefield 2 of course! Beats any singleplayer experience.

I played the FEAR demo too, it seems like the only FPS worth anything in the last few years.

Quake4 gets my vote - brilliant fun multiplayer & engaging single player game - put difficulty up a notch though.

Fable on Xbox was good yeah, Doesn't really have much replay value once you completed it though, since it has a pretty linear story for the most part.

of course....I only played the demo....but damm.....that Ravenholm level in Half Life 2 has got nothing on this game......and I'm not a big fan of eye-less, long hair females popping in your face when you least expect it....but damm....

I havent tried Quake 4 yet...but will soon...

BTW, not sure how well a 6600 will run FEAR though.....

Very well. That's what I'm running it on.

I have fear running well with almost all graphics settings optimized and 1027x768 32 resolution. It's still pretty good with realtime softshadows too, but to be honest the softshadows don't look that great for the extra performance. Look like 3 colour banding overdraw (or whatever you call it).

Half-life 2 makes more use of physics than FEAR does

I have to set the detail on FEAR to basically the minimum to be playable, hopefully the 6800GT I ordered will make it better.
