I realize this was brought up in the linked thread, but I really wish these were made official commands. I find them rather useful. I don't know if there is some under-the-hood technical reason these are unofficial commands.

That must be the case. I have speculated in the past as to what that reason might be, but it would be great to have an official explanation. It would at least arm us with the knowledge of when it's safe to use them, and when not, in particular projects.
