Well someone had to say it...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Well someone had to say it...

OK - I don't moan usually but hold on a second... and I know you guys knew that someone would say this didn't you (?) but...

I have supported the Blitz Research team over the years by purchasing BlitzBasic, Blitz 3D, BlitzMax, not to mention the years of solid support for Mark and crew and for all my support I have the honour of having to pay for MaxGUI?

Well I don't mind so much, in fact it was suspected, but... those who have only purchased ONE product - namely Blitz Plus? Why do they get singled out for honorary treatment?

I have to say, although it is generous to those who have BlitzPlus - it is not so fair on the rest of us.

[edited]
It leads me to think that because I have Blitz 3D then maybe the Max 3D mod will be free to me???!!! Nah!!

Either everyone should pay, or everyone should not pay - it is that simple.

Regards,

IPete2.

Even if it's right what you say, $25 for the gui module isn't exactly earthshaking .. rite?

yeah it's not much and Blitz Plus was around twice that anyway.

Anyway, it's probably a sweetener to say, sorry no more BlitzPlus updates now.

Also someone hinted at the poss of a 3D module free for Blitz3D users, but that's probably a totally bull romour.

Don't the Blitz guys have the right to be generous however they might choose? I see your point, but...

those who have only purchased ONE product - namely Blitz Plus? Why do they get singled out for honorary treatment?
I did wonder about this, myself. Seems a bit odd/unfair. But anyway...

[edit]
Also someone hinted at the poss of a 3D module free for Blitz3D users, but that's probably a totally bull romour.
If that's true then fair enough! :)

Of course they have the right to do whatever they feel is correct.

I am being a bit of a Devil's advocat - and I will purchase the Max GUI at some stage I am sure $25 is neither here nor there to me (atm) but the principle is what I am moaning at.

Having said that I just got a B3d update for free - thanks for that.

IPete2.

What in the world are you talking about? It sounds like you're saying Blitzplus users have gotten some preferential treatment? What do you mean? There was a Bltiz3d update released recently, but I don't see any for Blitzplus.

Ah! Shawn thats a fair enough comment - but you don't pay for B3d updates - some of us will be paying for the Max update others will not! How is that right? What the heck has Blitz Plus got to do with Max and any modules which may be released for it?

I'm simply pointing out the principle is odd in my book. Maybe my book is wrong?

IPete2.

It sounds like you're saying Blitzplus users have gotten some preferential treatment?
That have, sswift. They get the MaxGUI for FREE!

Get MaxGui and think of it as saving $35 by not buying B+. :)
P.S. Devil's Advocaat : 1 part Advocaat, 3 parts vodka.

Tonyg,

I will, when I want or need to - it's just a principle thing for me nothing more at this stage.

IPete2.

I see now, there's a news release on the front page, which I always bypass when I go to the forums.

Eh... I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe Blitz Plus users get the GUI free because they're trying to encourage Blitz Plus users to purchase Max and use that instead? Without a GUI it would be useless to them.

It's posisble they could do the same thing to encourage the remaining Blitz 3D users to switch when the 3D plugin arrives.

Don’t BlitzPlus only users still have to buy BlitzMax ($80) in order to use the free MaxGUI?

You can also think of it as paying for a cross-platform gui....not that its any help :p

Swifty, well, thats the $64,000 question isn't it really?

In which case I'll have not a leg to stand on because thats the bit I'm interested in - like many here.

Don't get me wrong I don't actually mind paying for work done on Blitz products - how the hell is Mark supposed to survive without new sales of new products?

Shawn you know I have your commercial licenses and I appreciate the real graft that goes into these products.

We NEED Mark to continue development so it's a no brainer really.

IPete2.

5 months of work for free? yeah right
dream on, please stop creating threads like this,it makes the community look bad.

Slenkar read the top post first dude!

The bit which says:

Either everyone should pay, or everyone should not pay - it is that simple.

IPete2.

I think it's good and lots of peopole will like it. When I got Max I was mildy disappointed there wasn't a reduced price for BlitzPLus users (same could apply to 3D users) as it was an "Upgrade". But now effectively the "reduction" in price is available but only if you wanted the GUI module anyway, I'm not too bothered (even if it is cool) as I've got Delphi and Visual Studio for windows Apps. A 3D module would be cool, but I'm not even bother about that as 2D is fine for me for now...

is this really IPete2, the most humble and most loyal user here???

Come on Pete, they probly gave it away for some reason that makes sense to them and not to me and you perhaps...

I think they gave it away to prevent moaning and requests from b+ users. So they can concentrate more on blitzmax.

Guys, please don't get me wrong here - I continue to be a humble and most loyal user - in fact I will continue to be so ad infinitum.

I am sure they did Maximo.

IPete2.

I have bought BlitzPlus, Blitz3D and BlitzMax, but I would gladly have paid for the MaxGUI module if I had to. I happen to think that its great value for the money.

I continue to be a humble and most loyal user
I know you are Pete, and you are also a valuable member of the community.

I read your post in the context that you intended, and it's clear to me that there is no malicious intent. Hopefully the rest of the community can take your comment for what it is - more of an observation than an attack on Blitz Research.

I have to say, although it is generous to those who have BlitzPlus - it is not so fair on the rest of us.
It's just a marketing tool to get Blitz Plus owners to buy Blitz Max. In fact they have had to pay more than you to get the same functionality out of Max.

Max+GUIMax=$105

Max+BlitzPlus=$140

And don't say you've payed more because you have Blitz3D. That is irrelevant as that gives you a lot more functionality then BlitzPlus. If you're so bothered by it then buy BlitzPlus and get the GUI free also...

Well...

Go on...

Mmm...

Thought not.

Zawran,

So do I, and I say again Mark has to stay in business - I think he should charge for it but it should be the same for everyone who has purchased Max.

IPete2.

Well I own blitz+ but I still paid for the maxgui. Five months of work for free deserves payment. Plus, it makes sense that blitz+ users get the upgrade. Considering the fact that blitz+ was a stopgap solution.

@skn3[ac], I know exactly what you mean about them deserving payment for their work, and I have also just ordered it to show my appreciation.

I dont own BlitzPlus, but it makes sense to me to give
bplus users a break on the gui mod.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont.
perhaps bplus users might be starting threads like this if
they had to pay. but i think that complaint would hold
more weight.

Lets see...

I bought Blitz Basic twice
I bought Blitz 3D twice
I Bought Blitz Plus twice
I bought Blitz Max

I have certainly supported BRL just as much as anybody and I think it is nice of BRL to give those of us who support them a free registration of MaxGUI. It was unexpected, but very much appreciated.

IPete2 has a very obvious point.
To someone on the outside like me who has neither Blitz+ nor BlitzMax it would seem obvious that the 'free' gui is a more than gentle nudge to Blitz+ users to say that it's day is done(?).

Having said that, on several occasions I've suggested to Blitz Research that I'd be quite prepared to pay for Blitz3D all over again. I'm not happy with the idea that Mark feels he has to support and update for free something that I bought 3 1/2 years ago.

Mark, please carry on with support and changes (the video fix was crucial to me), and if you want to say 'Ok guys, I'm going to have to charge for Blitz3D again, coz I need to make a living.' - then I'll be online with my credit card 10 seconds later.

(Damn - was this a hijack? Sorry, Pete.)

@ IPete2>> You can always buy BlitzPlus and get the MaxGUI for free. ;)

Yeah I'd pay for more Blitzplus fixes for the simple reason they save me time and time is of course money (to some of us anyway ;-)

B+ users may get it free because they were the only users to lose GUI capability by upgrading to blitzmax.

off-topic: I would also pay again if I had to (especially since I purchased before the split with idigicon.) As it is though, I like to think that the people I've convinced to purchase blitz makes up some of the difference. Including one guy who wanted me to give him my copy.

Don't forget that the BlitzPlus community were also unofficial testers of the GUI. As a BlitzPlus user, there has been hardley anything new at all, just mainly bug fixes.
Its about time we got something new to play with like the extra gadgets that were promised by Skid & co.

unofficial testers... heh... B+ sucked. A lot. That they give b+ owners a break on maxgui is great. I'd have paid it if need be, but I'm glad to get it for free.

I think this is a dumb topic.

The point of using B+ is that it is entirely gui oriented.
The blitzmax gui is almost identical hence why they shouldn't pay for essentially the same thing.

It is also smart business acumen because a B+ user now has no barrier to upgrading to blitzmax.

It does not apply to the max 3D module because it is entirely a complete step up from Blitz3D, there isn't any compatibility nor comparison in feature sets unlike the gui mod, which is virtually identical to having B+ (although it is superior of course).

Put your flaming torch away Pete :)

Can someone answer me this: why is it that no matter what BRL does - there is always someone who will see it in a negative light?

Mark didn't have to give BlitzPlus users a freebie, but he did (for whatever reason). BlitzPlus users should rejoice (as I'm sure they are), and everyone else should bite the rubber bullet, for they have lost nothing. Fair doesn't come into it, life isn't fair, get used to it.

Look at it another way: someone has to pay for the GUI, if not everyone else then who? Maplet owners?

Also, I wouldn't hold your breath for the Blitz3D to Max3D freebie. It is very very unlikely in my (educated) opinion, and why should it be otherwise?

Sorry if I offend anyone, but some things just get my goat.

I don't own BMax so all this talk is academic to me, anyway. :P

Can't be arsed to read all the above, However:

Surely the free-to-b+-users is okay, due to the fact that B+ isnt really a full complete product with its problems (I wouldnt actually know- but ive seen a few things said around here?)

Doesnt MaxGUI for free rectifies this issue?

Though, i suppose, b+ is pretty cheap.

Like some other guys here I have BlitzPlus but decided to pay for the MaxGUI as I feel Mark & Co. deserve to be paid for their hard work. $25 is so little that anyone should be able to pay for MaxGUI and don't whine about it. Nothing on this earth is free (one way or another) and regarding $25... whoever does not have that kind of money to spend on MaxGUI has much, much bigger problems in life...

Barney

I dunno about b+ GUI but the 2D side for games is REALLY good, it just has no 3D card support (like Max has), sure there are a few bugs but they can be worked around.

BlitzPlus was aimed primarily at people wanting to produce some GUI based programs so it makes sense not to expect them to pay again. I expect BlitzPlus to be withdrawn fairly soon - no longer than 6 months perhaps.

I think it's a very good idea. What better way to market BlitzMax to BlitzPlus users but to provide the GUI module FREE to them? I understand how you would want to be able to get MaxGUI free too, but I think it's quite fair to only offer this to BlitzPlus owners.

Now what wouldn't be fair is if Max3D, when it comes out, does not offer a similar promotional offer. Of course this is completely up to BRL whether or not they want to provide discounts to Blitz3D users as they have to BlitzPlus users, but I'm sure I, as well as any other Blitz3D user, would appreciate equal treatment. This does NOT mean Max3D for free, but possibly a discount. As someone pointed out, MaxGUI does not offer features superior to BlitzPlus's GUI, although I'm sure Max3D will be far superior to Blitz3D. Therefore, offering Max3D with a small or medium (depending on Max3D's superiority to Blitz3D) discount would be very nice.

Again, this is all up to BRL. As you know, discounts and promotional offers can hugely benefit a company. For example, if Max3D comes out with a special promotional offer for Blitz3D owners, this would influence me strongly to buy BlitzMax AND Max3D to take advantage of the limited-time promotional offer. I'm sure the same applies to this new offer with MaxGUI, and I hope their promotional strategy works out (more sales even at reduced rate = more profits).

Like Cygnus says, I was always under the impression that B+ was more of a false start 2D language that many people bought and never used, because it never really progressed far enough that people felt it had an advantage over the other products.

I also recall a lot of people being upset with Bmax, because it basicly did what B+ was supposed to do, and they felt cheated buying another blitz plus again.

I can see some logic ion giving it to blitz+ users for free, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. If I need the GUI module it's a tiny amount of the greenstuff anyway :)

I just want it out of the way so we can get a 3D module quicker :)

/me unleashes a mega yawn.

regarding $25... whoever does not have that kind of money to spend on MaxGUI has much, much bigger problems in life...

Oh yes, nice one. Let's insult and alienate all the hard working folks who barely make enough to provide for their families.

[edit] Removed - Can't be bothered :/

I don't see any problem with the MaxGUI module being made free for BlitzPlus users whatsoever.

Dear Mr Silbey

It does not matter if you give your products away, because you are condemned by your (ab)users. You can't do anything right, even if it is the right thing.

sincerely,

The forum regulars

I think 1. USD25 is fine and 2. the B+ users deserve this as they got a steaming heap of crap with B+. I don't own B+ nor do I ever plan on buying it or the MaxGUI module, but I've used B+ before and I'm amazed anyone even bought it.

Oh yes, nice one. Let's insult and alienate all the hard working folks who barely make enough to provide for their families.

If you can pay your net bill, TV license, and what-not, I think you can afford USD25. If you can't, then cancel your ISP's subscription, stop paying for TV, and start using that money to provide for JUST your family. If you were to put internet before your family I would say you need to reconsider your priorities.

Needless to say, people who barely make enough to provide for their families wouldn't have internet access as it would be much more beneficial to put the money towards better use, like purchasing food, instead of maintaining a connection to access the interwebial stew.

Funnily enough ... I went through a rough patch a few years back and, although I have no family to worry about, I did at my lowest point go three days without food - but the internet stayed connected. The downside of monthly bills that can be paid upto 4 months late before disconnection is that it feels invisible until the fan gets muddy.

To say no food is actually a lie: I had a packet of noodles I refused to eat because then I really would have eaten everything and that would have made me feel hungry knowing that there was no more! lol..

yeah, I have had difficult times too. At one point while working on Aerial Antics, I had rice and tomato ketchup 3 days a week and a budget of $20 a week for food total.

Canceled TV 4 years ago as it seemed a waste of money, and never gone back, and have the cheapest broadband at under $20 a month.

I can afford $25 here and there though, but typicaly have to watch my balance towards the end of the month.

There are many places you can use the internet for free, and I don't see how tv has any bearing one way or another. Point is, people's financial situations are not necessarily static. Just because you had the money to buy BlitzMax doesn't necessarily mean you will have spare cash a year later. I can recall plenty of occasions when people have posted here about losing their job, and if someone happens to have suffered that now, I don't think we need to add insult to injury.

If you can pay your net bill, TV license, and what-not, I think you can afford to send me $50. I mean, it isn't like you're using the money anyway.

Contact me directly for a mailing address where you can send your checks.

Becky: noodles are all you need.

People, I was willing to shell out the $25 for the GUI module, but I got a nice suprise this morning. Ofcourse, I know it means that BlitzPlus is dying an unofficial death. (right, BRL? :] ) I think, in that light, it was the right thing to do. Why some Blitz2d and 3d owners believe they got the short end of the stick is beyond me.
I think it shows that BRL actually do care about their customers, and have tried to make B+ owners feel better who -let's face it- have bought a doomed product...

being unemployed in the US can be pretty tough as you pay into an unemployment fund whilst working, and what you accumulate in there is all you have for unemployment when you get laid off. Enough to keep you going for 6 months.

After which your probably going to be on the streets if you don't have a new source of income.

Sometimes I think they should do something similar in the UK, which might force certain types of freeloaders to get some kind of work. Judging by the ammount of homeless here in California I'm not sure though.

Having read the above posts and the recent announcements, I can see where BRL are going with this.

BlitzPlus is on its way out thats for sure, and giving the MaxGUI away to BlitzPlus owners is a way of generating more income for BRL because the BlitzPlus users will have to buy BlitzMax just to get the free GUI package. So it may be seen as a generous decision to some, but a bit sneaky to others (including me).

If the MaxGUI had more gadgets (more than BlitzPlus has), I would buy BlitzMax tomorrow. But until then I'll stick with BlitzPlus.

hahahaha, so BR is supposed to price their software for the homeless?

It has a few more than BlitzPlus. And more gadget options on most of the ones in B+

Wiebo...

Can you list the extra stuff in MaxGUI for me here. There doesn't appear to be any online docs for it yet. Cheers.

Why is it sneaky? because it is a free gift (no matter how you look at it?)

OH! FORGIVE ME! I thought above, you said that it was sneaky... but if it had more gadgets, you'd buy it?

Not including the fact that Blitzmax on it's own is cross platform, hardware accelerated and far faster?

One Eyed Jack....

Why is it sneaky? because it is a free gift (no matter how you look at it?)

Its not free if I have to buy BlitzMax to use it is it? Honestly Jack, a 5 year old could have worked that one out.

OH! FORGIVE ME! I thought above, you said that it was sneaky... but if it had more gadgets, you'd buy it?

Are you stupid or something? Why should I buy BlitzMax(+GUI) for the same GUI stuff thats already available in BlitzPLus?

Please read my comments properly before posting. But then again, that's probably asking too much.

Is the GUI hardware accelerated? I don't know since I don't have it. I know Mark made improvements to DrawPixmap by utilising BitBlt, maybe the GUi is the reason he made those improvements???

Dear Mr Sibley

It seems the (ab)users have forgiven you, or rather forgotten about you, as they are now engaged at each others throats.

Regarding missing gadgets.. just name them, and they'll popup eventually in the community. I mean, we have events, we have windows, panels and canvases.. that's about the only stuff you need for them.

Do you not know what a Windows control is?

right now I'm just waiting for someone to send me my freakin BUID so I can register maxgui... I can't do squat til I get that. :/

Here, have some crap for your blasphemy:

Either everyone should pay, or everyone should not pay - it is that simple.

You are not an owner of BlitzPlus, so you are not expected to understand. Just move on.

There was a Bltiz3d update released recently, but I don't see any for Blitzplus.

The update for BlitzPlus was released around 2 minutes after Blitz3D's ;] Look again sswifty...

What the heck has Blitz Plus got to do with Max?

Actually, MaxGUIs early working title was 'the BlitzPlus module'. And its almost entirely portable straight from B+ code into Max.

Don’t BlitzPlus only users still have to buy BlitzMax ($80) in order to use the free MaxGUI?

Of course!

5 months of work for free? yeah right

It's closer to 10 actually ;]

I'd have paid it if need be, but I'm glad to get it for free.

The last part goes without saying ;] But it's the same for me. I don't even really agree with it, but I will take advantage of it regardless =] The fact is BlitzPlus was not a product that got the attention it deserved and a lot of people may have looked down on BRL for it. While I could have easily gone on living quite easily paying for the GUI mod, this is a kind of apology from BRL and has completely restored any niggly little doubt about them I may have had.

-I will never complain again.-

If the MaxGUI had more gadgets (more than BlitzPlus has),
It not only has more gadgets, but the gadgets have more options.

You can't use B+'s GUI with BMax, so that is a silly argument of sticking with B+, they are two entirely different languages.

IPete2 has a very obvious point.
No he doesn't, he's being an jerk and leading the whine and moan brigade because he never cared about having a GUI enough to buy B+.

Obviously the free GUI update should ONLY be offered to B+ owners as they are the only ones who are using and need GUI support. They are the only ones with a confirmable history of using GUIs and supporting BRLs past GUI supporting languages.

Last I knew, B2D & B3D do not have GUI support, so any of those users migrating to BMax will not be missing out on anything they need.

This has been a rather humorous thread to see users bitching because BRL has given away something for free to existing GUI users they know will use it.

Mark can't win, he charges for something and gets reamed, he gives something free to existing users and gets reamed. Sounds like Mark could use a case of KY Jelly for Christmas. He's getting F'ed no matter what he does, because there are always these select few who will stick it to him like Ned Beatty bent over a moss covered log.

Sometimes I think they should do something similar in the UK,
They already have.

While I could have easily gone on living quite easily paying for the GUI mod, this is a kind of apology from BRL and has completely restored any niggly little doubt about them I may have had.

Well said.

It's really simple isn't it. Previous GUI owners got a free upgrade because we had already purchased a GUI system from BRL. I would have paid for MaxGUI, $25 is not the end of the world, and to get it free was wonderfull and I can see why we got it free. Major points to the BRL team IMO.

Just like theres a sucker born every minute there will always be a moaner, complainer no matter what.

WTF!!!!! 25$ !?!?!?!? TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS?

I spent more than that on a pizza for 2 and a few drinks the other night. Sorry but that is generosity to the point of charity, plus the wicked spliffic offer to B+ owners.

Well, the Blitz gang just extended my loyalty, oooh about another millenium or so.

IPete2, why did you throw your toys out the pram dude? christmas just got better!

25$ lol. If you can´t justify spending that then perhaps an economic barter system and something involving cowrie shells or salt is more to your liking.

I hear BRL are exchanging the GUI module for DS's and PSP's instead ;]

If you think that BlitzPlus users "got singled out for honorary treatment" i dont think that is true, because they still have to buy the $80 BMX to have any use for the free GUI module. So thats a total of $140 for BlitzMax, MaxGui, and the outdated BlitzPlus. Now if you don't own B+ then you pay a total of $105 dollars for BlitzMax and MaxGui. So if you compare the actual amount of money being spent, I think that an accusations of "honorary treatment" are unfounded.

I think 1. USD25 is fine and 2. the B+ users deserve this as they got a steaming heap of crap with B+. I don't own B+ nor do I ever plan on buying it or the MaxGUI module, but I've used B+ before and I'm amazed anyone even bought it.

Quite frankly I dont think anyone cares wether you're going to buy it or not Cower.

You can feel the love.

Do you not know what a Windows control is?

Actually, no. What is that?

Geez.

Some people here sound like they won't be happy until BRL is paying *them* for the privilege of using BMax & the additional modules.

BRL made a very nice product, at a very reasonable price, and on top of that did a nice thing for a somewhat overlooked portion of their userbase (the B+ users)

Please, what more could one ask for?

/me Bought MaxGUI last night

Sheesh. If I didn't know any better, I'd think Mr Cower both owned Microsoft and was personally responsible for the output of EA Games.

On topic: If I had bought B+ way back when, I'd be well-chuffed by BRL's lil gesture. Since I didn't, then I'll caress by B3D lovingly and give B-plussing BMax owners a hearty "Good for you - and fair enough".

Pressies are nice - but I'm no worse off for the lack of them.

[edit] Besides, I got a nice shiny 1.91 update for free! [/edit]

Quite frankly I dont think anyone cares wether you're going to buy it or not Cower.

You're just ticked off 'cause I banned you from #blitzcoder for asking for a Photoshop CS 2 serial number.

By the way, Leigh, don't forget I'm the one who gave you Blitz3D for half-price ;)

You are 100% spot on Sushimasta. Its just a sales trick to get existing BlitzPlus owners to upgrade to BlitzMax.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

And another thing.... The MaxGUI may have more options in the gadget commands but remember, many people have researched the WinAPI and posted solutions for these already in the code archives.

I don't think people realize just how much work the community have actually done for BRL. It has saved them lots of time and money.

"Sales trick". Lovely. How I weep for days gone by...

Noodles: Oh I haven't forgotten - I hope you got something nice for it (2 x MaxGUI modules maybe?!). :o) Using it right now. Any second now, someone will notice I've been on lunch for nearly two hours... tsk tsk

Its just a sales trick to get existing BlitzPlus owners to upgrade to BlitzMax.

So what! BlitzMax is the future

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

You've obviously never been to Tescos

It has saved them lots of time and money.

And the savings are then passed on to the community via cheap modules, free upgrades and free updates.

You're just ticked off 'cause I banned you from #blitzcoder for asking for a Photoshop CS 2 serial number.

Why would I be ticked off for getting banned from #blitzcoder. Its pretty much dead in there.

Seems a very sensible move - Nice one BRL - nice for BlitzPlus users.
25$ for the GUI is more than reasonable.

PEOPLE PLEASE!!!!!!

Why argue about this?

It says right on the front page:
Special offer! For a limited time, MaxGUI is available *free* to owners of BlitzPlus who have also bought BlitzMax! Please visit the products page for more information.

Honestly, do we have to argue about this? What does it matter?

I personally think its a great idea. It gives those who complained about B+ not getting what they wanted a "well here you go", and those who really support what BRL is doing won't mind paying for it even if BRL is giving it to them for free. It also opens the door for B+ owners to upgrade to max and use max for what they are using B+ for at a reduced rate. Either way, its good for them, and I think it is a good idea.

Granted, this doesn't mean that B3d owners should get the MAX3D module for free by any means. I could excuse a 'reduced' price for existing owners, but even that's stretching it. I fully intend to buy Max3D when it is released, as I want to use the Max language for my 3d projects! I will pay to get it, I would even pay $5 to play with the demo of it!

I registered my BPlus-for-free-maxgui just to test out some of the new stuff (cause I have wait to pay for it until I get the money in the account). I will be buying it none the less because that was my original reasoning for buying Blitzplus (to support BRL). I don't need a GUI at this point, but I might.

IPete, I believe your intentions were non-offsensive, however you can't trust that a community like this will stay along your intentions as well. I would just put it to rest and let it be.

Honestly though, we need not argue about this! If you don't like it, dont buy it. If you did like it, then BUY IT! Seriously folks!

I don't mind the arguments because people have to voice what they need to say. It's the complainers that want everything for free that annoy me.

I seems obvious that the MaxGUI offer is a way to apologize to the owners of BP, and bring them onto the BMX train as BP is dumped.

Are you a schizo or do you want the whole world on a stick for free? You just posted in another thread thanking BR for a Blitz3D update and then create this one having a moan.

Some people are just never happy.

OK deep breaths Enay, calm down, have some cheese.

Are you a schizo

Surely this is out of order? Why are the moderators allowing this thread to continue, when it has degenerated to this point?

What I don't agree with is that Skid & Co have promised BlitzPlus owners that there will many improvements to the existing BlitzPlus GUI. It hasn't happened. Instead, it appears that they are offering a free GUI with BlitzMax instead which means we have to pay out for it. That just isn't fair.

It would be very nice if someone at BRL could confirm whether support for BlitzPlus will continue and the promisied updates will be implemented.

I can assure you I never get angry :)

Besides I think it's a valid request, posting a thankyou and criticism thread within the same hour about the same thing is in my opinion in quite poor taste and really unnecessary.

It's called business, besides how much free stuff do you think you can get out of one purchase? Vote with your money, not with your moaning.

ok.. but uhm.. look I'm a compleet n00b when it comes to c++ with windows GUI... but wasn't it possible to include .h files in max? As in: is it possible to have all the GUI gadgets there are, by just including c++ code pointing to all those gadgets or what? (So they may not be in maxgui natively)

have promised BlitzPlus owners that there will many improvements to the existing BlitzPlus GUI. It hasn't happened.
The new GUI has many improvements over what is currently in B+. The MaxGUI is only days old, that is not really enough time to port it over to B+. They have already said many times that B+'s GUI will see an overhaul one MaxGUI is released. It will probably take more than two days to make that overhaul.

Instead, it appears that they are offering a free GUI with BlitzMax instead which means we have to pay out for it. That just isn't fair.
There is nothing to pay for, the GUI is free for B+ owners. If you don't have MAX the MaxGUI won't do you any good, so no use complaining.

B+ just saw an update (it is hardly neglected).

The blitz plus update was tiny.

Well, to be honest, there was nothing BPlussy about it. It was two generic updates that went into B3D as well.

It would be very nice if someone at BRL could confirm whether support for BlitzPlus will continue and the promisied updates will be implemented.

I never saw any 'promised' updates that I can recall. I was under the impression that B+ was distributed as complete. I don't have issues with it when I use it when it comes to GUI gadgets, perhaps I am just missing the point.

But oh well. Some people will never be pleased.

If the BRL boys read some of these posts they would no doubt feel as if he'd been kicked in the teeth - no wonder they keep schtum a lot of the time. I think BRL are one of the most fair playing companies out there and genuine enthusiasts for their product to boot.

Now shall I go get a takeaway Chinese, or purchase MaxGUI for the same money - difficult decision ; )

posting a thankyou and criticism thread within the same hour about the same thing is in my opinion in quite poor taste and really unnecessary.

And calling someone a schizo is not in poor taste or unnecessary?

Besides, you seem to be missing the point. IPete2 was thanking Mark for a Blitz3D bug fix update in the other thread, which has nothing to do with this topic of MaxGUI being given away to just BlitzPlus owners.

Surely this is out of order? Why are the moderators allowing this thread to continue, when it has degenerated to this point?
I was wondering the same thing. Several people have received 'personal attacks' which I seem to remember being against the forum rules. Other, completely inoffensive threads, get deleted in the blink of an eye! :/

>Insert Noel's pic of the "this thread" train wreck, here<

And another thing.... The MaxGUI may have more options in the gadget commands but remember, many people have researched the WinAPI and posted solutions for these already in the code archives.
But will those solutions work for MacOS and Linux? I didn't think so. Oh wait, neither does BlitzPlus. Damned.

Now shall I go get a takeaway Chinese, or purchase MaxGUI for the same money - difficult decision ; )
Eat less perhaps?

And calling someone a schizo is not in poor taste or unnecessary?
He wasn't calling him a schizo (which I assume is short for schizophrenic, which is often confused with multiple personality disorders), he was asking him if he was one.

Besides, you seem to be missing the point.
IPetes point maybe, but he makes a valid point of his own.

I can't see what possible rationale there should be behind giving Blitz3D users or BlitzMAX users a discount on an new and unrelated product, where as a 25 USD discount for previous users of BlitzPlus seems more than reasonable, and easier to defend on an intellectual level (or so you would assume).

Compare Blitz3D's life and update cycle to BlitzPluses. I think we can all agree that BlitzPlus owners have the shortest end of that particular stick.

BRL have been scorned on numerous occasions, for not providing loyalty discounts and a streamlined update path. When they finally do, they get scorned for that too, and people are thinking of devilish litte reason why they might have done such a despicable thing.

Yes, better late then never. Thread = locked.
