Columbo game?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Columbo game?

has there ever been one? I hope not as I love Columbo (got Season one on DVD for £15 new that's 11 hours) and they would probably only hash it up as with most movie TV tie ins. About the only good movie tie in was Chronicles of Rid"Censored" which was neat.

Um, a game about "Colombo" ("Peter Falk") - the bumbling US detective?

Have you been drinking?

as a matter of fact ... hic 8-p

No, he's just been eating pizza and chips and talking to a pigeon who thinks like him.

hm I'd say nearly everything can be tranformed into some Scumm(tm)-kinda game..

With the trick of the game being entering a building, ask something, go out, go back in, and ask yet another thing. :P

This idea is so crazy I hope someone is going to do it.

Felix Leiter?

Felix Leiter? I googled.

CS_TBL. I too played Monkey Island 1 2 and onwards, and had to do the crazy multiple dumb stuff, but it was GOOD.

Is anyone else not scared by this?

It's not a bad idea. The right setting and story could make this a cult game.

Think about it, something like Deja Vu on the C64 and Amiga, in glorious 3D. it could actually work both as a first person game and as an adventure.

I've had a detective game on my First Person Adventure game idea list for a while.

Hey I like Comlumbo. Especially since I know for sure whatever happens, Columbo's gonna get the bad guys. And his fictional wife - has anybody ever seen her? I guess she don't exist at all. However, I think a game is a great Idea. Falk was executive Producer at least of some of the series. Not sure how easy it would be to get a license for the theme.

Falk directed at least one episode, one early one in the first series about a construction site. Try wikipedia for columbo it has some cool info about his wife and stuff like that. There was actually a show called MRs Columbo but it was probably poop, I've never seen it.

Yeah in the game you could suspect who did it from the start and you have to keep on hounding them until the drop verbal clangers that land them in it, plus look for more clues, and also set up traps where they expose themselves (not nudity, the other expose).

Will the game have a "just one more thing" button when questioning the suspect? :P

"Just one more thing" button should appear when you quit the conversation...
Well, seriously. It's a good idea to make an adventure game out of it...
Scumm(TM) style seems more appropriate than DejaVu's...
Third person. Multiple dialog possibilities (Remember the beautiful dialogs in Monkey Island???)... Endless inventory...
How about some randomly generated cases?

the button can't appear until you have partially exited the room.

Even better - only when you are standing in the doorway

that's kinda what I mean, at least we're on the same wavelength.

Here's some code:
IF standinginthedoorway and (facingway=other) and abouttodothefinalstep
THEN
 show Just_one_more_question.button
ENDIF
IF Just_one_more_questio.button=clicked
turncharacter columbo,0,-180,0
say columbo, "Just one more question:"
dialog.engage
ENDIF

8-)

lol. Also the murderer needs a mental state variable that starts off all helpful and friendly and as the game progress the get more @#!*ed off until they just tell him to get lost (or in some cases attempt to kill him). Of course most murderers need to be @#!*y and almost giving away clues that they think you won't get or follow up, but you *know* haha

You should be able to switch character. Then you can switch to the dog and wander around! Also, you must be able to talk into some phone with Columbo's wife.. no visuals ofcourse.. :D

He once showed a photo of his wife EXCEPT it was his sister in law or something. Also he took someone to his house, except it wasn't of course. The dog didn't appear for quite a while I think. Did you know the Mac and Car belong to the actor and he suggested putting them in?

Well for it to make sense, we'd have to see the ending and who the murderer was and then spend the rest of the game trying to prove it was the murderer.

Actually, the concept seems more innovative than you might think.

Yep, there's got to be his 'just one more question' special attack and also if you speak to someone more than 5 times in a row they get really angry. :)

Warcraft 2 already had the 'getting angry after continuous bugging' :P

an aquaintance of mine made this a few years ago

preposterous

LOL @ Anatoly's code

>Warcraft 2 already had the 'getting angry after continuous
>bugging' :P

*SIGH* I first remember seeing it in Magnetic Scrolls 'The Pawn' way back in '87. Great game by the way... Listen to the wall - You won't catch me out with any of those trick questions.
