Wireless Pocket PC

Ha, a friend of mine just came round to watch a movie and on the way home whilst using his Pocket PC as an MP3 player he walked past an unprotected wireless internet zone (of which he says there are tons) and just Skyped me! I thought it was pretty cool, although I'm sure some of you are like "that's so last year dude". And to think how much mobiles cost per minute when Skype is free!

There are tons of unprotected wireless zones out here - in Texas. While driving down the street (well, while riding in a car), I can pick up a network almost anywhere downtown. I even found tons in rural areas.

I finally got myself a laptop with wireless network card, and so far, wherever I've taken it, I've been able to access the net on it (only taken it a couple if places so far).

Same, Perturbatio. A bunch of cafes and restaurants have wireless internet now. I get internet from banks, McDonalds, Starbucks, all kinds of places.

Most (modern) cities offer somekind of free wireless, it's good for their hi-tech image :)

mmm i had me one of those pda´s some weeks ago untill someone nicked it from me over night when i forgot it on my desk at work in a locked room with alarm. hmmm..

Clearly you've never encountered Edinburgh City Council. They implement nothing without finding a way to charge you for it first.

charging for it is stinky like in hotels.

When even Douala (in Cameroon, Africa!) soon will have one, you should forward the link below to the council... if "dark" Africa is going (free) wireless, why should Scotland stay in the middle age? :)

We haven't yet escaped the dark ages, at least half the people that run the Edinburgh Council have yet to embrace decimalisation, nevermind (free) wireless net access.

they used to be marked... weren't they... i mean, if you went outside one day and saw these strange markings on the side of your house, apartment complex, or a structure nearby... that meant that you, or someone near you was providing a wireless isp service...

anyone remember what the markings were???

sure you can google it, I remember those markings but only in cities.
