Software reverb

what is the best freeware software reverb? May be an Editor or a VST plugin, doesn't have to be realtime capable.

There are lots of reverbs, but they all sound like crap. Is there anything that produces high quality reverb for .wav files?

I think I heard once that to get good reverb you have to do it in stereo.

Software reverb has never really been all that good, no plugins exist that can really match a good hardware unit... especially free ones. Probably the best *commercial* reverb plugin is Waves TrueVerb

Bass dll can do reverb in Blitz.
Search for the BlitzBass wrapper.

We found the UltraFunk Reverb to be the best sounding reverb on the market.

So, what do you think sits in the ROMs of a hardware unit? Right: a software algo. Which can be applied as plugin in software as well.

Technically, things don't get better than a convolution reverb, which is available for years and years, years before Yamaha and Sony made their 'big-bucks convolution units'.

The only things that differ are:
- on a computer things aren't limited, when there's not enough cpu power left, freq-rate might intentionally drop, whereas on a hardware reverb, you get what there is. And nothing more/less.
- averagely a consumer-soundcard doesn't have very good AD/DA converters.
- the psychological side of the story, because ppl have more affection with hardware than with software.

All my outboard units are 48Khz 16Bit, yeah it's hardware but it's running software! My outboard units are Alesis Quadraverb II.

What i said was: there's no software reverbs available that can match a good hardware unit.

Which is true, because generally speaking the software algos from good hardware units do not make their way into plugins, unless it's a plugin for a dedicated DSP chip.

This was true 5 years ago. Now all the people who make the hardware reverb units also make Pro Tools plugins.

However, expect to pay way too much money for a truly pro quality reverb plugin.

I personally think it is a waste. There are plenty of lesser expensive reverb units and plugins which work just fine. A $50,000+ reverb won't sound better than a $1000 reverb to anyone except maybe a veteran studio engineer, with the highest quality monitors, listening to a test tone. I have heard plenty of freeware VST plugins that sound great.
