Change Icons ?

Hi Blitzers, need your help ! is it possible to change the icons of windows files individually ? say you had a pdf
file and you wanted to change it so it had an icon
different to all the other pdf files ? is this possible?
what software do I need ? thanks !! :)) Have a great weekend everyone !!!

You can only change the Icon associated with the filetype. IE, you have to change the PDF extension to have a different icon, but in that case all files with the PDF extension would have that same icon :(

??Right click on the object icon then select "Change Icon".

umm, I've not seen THAT done in windows before... o.o

Can't do it in win98, that's for sure.

create a shortcut to the file and change the icon for that instead.

PDF files (and almost all other data formats) don't have Icons. Windows just pretends they do as a usability feature. Appearently it's more userfriendly than showing file extensions, because terms like "PDF" are confusing where as an indeterminate red swirly icon explains things in great detail.

..yup..I was wrong, Reshacker will work only with Win32 files..but IconChanger can do task..but its not free..

Oh for the love of pete, of all the things people complain about Windows about, now you're complaining that files are represented with icons? I know, let's go back to the DOS days of command lines!

And note that you can tell Windows to show file extensions, it just doesn't by default. Setting that view option is like the first thing I do when I'm customizing Windows for my use.

Which I bet everyone on this forum does as well, which shows that it should have been that way to begin with...

Ignorance doesn't help the computer-iliterates. It just makes them even more ignorant, in my opinion.

I always have file extensions shown, otherwise it's far too difficult changing files to something else.
