Mobile gaming.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Mobile gaming.

Just wondering if there's any money to be made in mobile gaming? And what's the best ide for mobile formats? Any C++ ides out there? Or better yet C#? or basic? Anything but java!

I use pocket c for palm games
I use Jamagic for pocket pc games
Pelles C will work on pocket pc

Thanks though I was refering to mobile phone gaming. Is there a big market for pocket pc games?

What about gameboy advance/ds? I realise ds would would require getting a licensed publisher though.

Any good phone emulators?

So many questionss...

Many, many phones run Windows so you can literally write a game for PocketPCs and it will run on the phones with no problems or slight changes. Some phones run PalmOS.

Palm OS & Pocket PC are huge markets and very profitable. Palm OS has a much larger userbase , but there is still a huge demand for Pocket PC and it is growing.

MS used to have the embedded versions of VC++ & VB for free, you may want to check them out.

Palm provides free emulators for registered developers, and MS provides Pocket PC emulators with the embedded versions of VC++ & VB, although IIRC the Pocket PC emulators will only work on NT based machines (may have changed since then).

Nokia wanted people to code in JAva when I looked into it a coupl of years back.

and those phones are selling more and more each time you look at em...

funny though... why do they still call em phones... they can do almost everything but get you to connect to and talk to a real person anymore... text messaging, take pictures, play games, view videos...

... but no talking

wasn't that the whole idea of a 'phone'...

oh well, me more convinced i be a dinosaur...

check out something called yeti3d... i think it was a mobile dev platform too...

there is serious money in Mobile games development (at least here in Japan and rest of Asia), and for that I use to work with MobileBasic..pretty simple and good stuff..

i'm sure there is... serious money out there to be made...

...but i'm taking the long term investment track... i'm putting my money into companies that come up with and market brain surgery techniques, instruments, and health insurance policies...

i mean, with all those cell phone users out there, microwaving their brains for hours on end each day... there's gonna be a lotta brain tumors appearing real soon now...

... and somebody's gonna benefit from it.

but in the meantime... hey, why not play a game on the infernal device when you're not using it as a brain warmer...

I recommend C++ for programming on Symbian (the most common OS on phones by far).

You can use most PC C++ IDEs to develop for phones.

You can emulate (actually they are usually simulators) most OSs/phones on your PC.

Good website with tutorials etc:

With Visual Studio and Smartphone SDK you are ready to take on VB, C# or C++.

For other phones theres allways mobilebasic.com

I've been wondering about mobile game dev too since max 8 came out.

It has a JSR 184 exporter and includes a MG3 player that emulates various phones by motorola, siemens, nokia and sony. So you can see what your stuff looks like.

Only problem is I'm not really a mobile gamer and don't even have a phone heh.

I don't have a phone either, but emulators solve that.
I got mobile basic2.1 and ham so can now develope mobile and gameboy advance games.
Ad, if you ever do want to make a mobile game, give me a e-aail. We'll conquer the universe. I am your father.

Evak, I dont suppose itll mean much, but ive written a game before in MobileBasic. Its sweet. I don't do it anymore though as I dont personally think mobile games are worth buying, so I wouldnt try to enter the market until my mind changes :)

there are soooooo many mobile 'phones' out there now, that if you sold a game for $2.95 and it caught on mildly... you'd be a millionaire in a month...

and to streamline the sale, you could find some way to have it added to their phone bill...

:)

Indeed it *could* catch on.

Personally, my thought is that they arent worth the price.

That is very likely to change soon as phones become mini-playstations. Until then, I won't develop for a platform that I dont deem worthy :)

[mumble] Do you see me making ps2/3 games? :P [/mumble]
