What software (Windows) do people recommend for creating sound effects for games? Not for creating full soundtracks, but just decent sound effects for clicks, good moves, bad moves, etc. Preferably something not too expensive!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Software for creating sound effects? I would think Fruity Loops would be a good alternative. It allows you to create your own SFX from scratch. (or you can create tones that you can use in music)

Goldwave is one I guess.. you can control everything from pitch to speed and apply various effects like noice reduction and flanger..

Mainly for editing previously created sounds.
It has lots of features to play with.

I asked Sound Force this question , some time ago, I was replied that results are not realistic however in a game programming book I have read it is possible

Soundforge and CoolEdit are two more good examples of such programs.
Its easy to simulate female voices from male voices, you just increase the pitch without changing the length of the clip. Everyone of these program can do this.

You'd need a pitch shifting plugin that takes formants into account for that - and even then the results wouldn't be entirely realistic...
There's a Waves plugin that does exactly that - i forget the name of it since my sound engineering days are long gone!!

A while ago I downloaded Audacity, which is free, and it seems alright. It can change my voice, too, by adjusting pitch (without changing speed), bass, and some other settings.
For sound effects, like clicks, explosions, etc., I've found I can just record me making the sound effects, then modifying them so they sound more realistic, although this doesn't work for everything.
