Dirty old software render in Bmax!??!?!?!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Dirty old software render in Bmax!??!?!?!
Yeah I know this is probably a waste of my time but I've only been mucking around with it for about 90 minutes.
The example is using DirectX7 RGB renderer, it's all done in software, no 3D Card required. The RGB renderer is very slow do I decided to try and speed it up using dirty rects (basically only clear and re-draw the parts of the screen that changed since the last render). The code actually works in hardware accellerated modes as well and does speed things up a little bit. I suppose this code could be implemented so that a game had a software fallback if required. Oh and you've got access to all the 3d bells and whistles such as blending and rotation.
Press "S" to turn off automatic clearing of Rects.

I still don't know why they don't include the basic Blitz renderer from B+ in it as a module...
Hmm, it just shows a picture on my PC and S does nothing. If you drag the window partially off screen and then back, the graphics corrupt and remain that way until you release the mouse button.
Rob, Draw Pixmaps - they are drawn as pixels to the backbuffer and not as a 3d Quad.
Jake, Try it now. I was using the MMX renderer instead of RGB.
Hey Tim, I get just the rocket picture and nothing else happens. Downloaded it again too.
Pixmaps? Will this be the same speed as say, Blitzbasic classic's DrawImage? just curious.
Lol, sort of non-compatible then. I can run it on all my machines, including win98!!!
You should see some flares moving around on the screen!
I don't see why Pixmaps should not be as fast, if you looks at marks code he's locking the backbuffer and blitting the image to it. Problem is that the default renderer on BMAX wants a 3d card so without forcing it to use a software renderer it seems pointless.
V2, pauses slightly (0.5 secs) then the rocket appears. Nothing else and S does nothing. I still get the blur if I drag off and back on screen without releasing button.
@Grey, you'll get that with all BMAX applications.
Ps. Judging by the way you must have dragged that I'd say you got the shakes :D
I haven't woken up properly yet, or maybe it's my "all natural" rush matting mouse mat.

!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?
Mine's longer than yours.
Nothing happens here either. G4 is displayed and 'S' doesn't make a difference.
WinXP SP2, 2700+, 9800Pro (if it matters), 1G RAM.
<edit> Oopps DX 9.0C
Oh yeah, my specs are P4 3.2, 1GB RAM, ATI 9800XT, XP SP2, Direct X9.0c
..
I've uploaded a new version where only the dirtyrects are drawn. Does that work for anyone?
I think you'll find those light balls are an optical effect caused by your lens and moisture/dust and not actually spirits of the dead or anything ...
I get just the dirty rects drawing on a black background.
@Happy cat, that's exactly what you should get in the updated version. Do you see the flares within those rects?
Yep, certainly do. And one under the mouse when it moves.
Hi,
I get a black screen on the new version, thats it.
Ati Radeon 9800 PRO latest cats.

ditto. Picture flashes and then the screen remains blank.
Works for me. GeForce 6600 256mb, v71.89 drivers, XPPro (no SP!).
Conclusion, This stinks. Perhaps a DirectDraw only system with Dirty Rects would be something someone would want? Rob? interested?
Just get a black screen... Radeon 9600Pro.
"Conclusion, This stinks" lol!
