Active Desktop and Widget items

What are you views of having downloadable Active Desktop and Widget items from a website? Are there any compatibility issues that you think I should be aware of?

Just say no.

Personally I shy away from anything that has a memory resident program - I even turn off Quicktime except when I actually want to watch a quicktime movie.

Almost all computer problems of computer instability that are not hardware related are the fault of memory resident programs that are incompatable with each other or have a short-coming in their design (or in the case of malware are intentionally unstable).

They also serve to hinder the performance of your computer. Most people dont believe my computer is only an AMD 2200+ (1.8Ghz?) when they see it running because it runs as quick as the day Windows was installed. My brothers 4Ghz PC is slower than mine at everything except loading Max (he has enough RAM).

I hate active desktop items and anything else that stays resident hogging resources. I always go into Task Manager on startup and kill anything I don't recognise as being vital which is pretty much anything that isn't running under 'system'.

I disabled active desktop, and don't use wallpapers, that looks cleaner, only my taste, but only a cent.

That would be a resounding "no".

I take that as a no then :D
