Doom movie released today
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Doom movie released today Hmmm...the reviews have a very snooty, pseudo-academic sound to them. It's not surprising that a film critic is not going to like a movie with aliens and guns. These are the same people who said The Devil's Rejects sucked.
Not to say I think it will be great. My guess is it will be worse than Aliens, but better than Tomb Raider. I'd better go see it, because these stupid movie reviews always just summarize the movie.

Summary: "If it moves, shoot it... If it doesn't move, shoot it anyway just in case" ?
I didn't like that in one of the trailers there was a shot with a big number of living civilians in a brightly-lit room.
Thus, I refuse to watch it in theatres.

I thought it was pretty @#!* when I viewed the trailer - lots of first person "game" shots where you view from the gun.
Thats a terrible idea because we're not watching this film for a game experience or anything to do with games.
We are watching it because the game plot and what happens deserves to be a film.
Shame they can't see that in hollywood. The last thing we want to see is a film directed as if we're playing a game...

heh, games trying to look like movies, and movies trying to look like games <sigh>
Bet it's not as good as Starwreck, and that's Free! Just watched it with my girlfriend, great (silly) movie and 1 hour 40 mins long!
It's got a chainsaw and a pinky demon! I am going to go see it.
saw it and though im not big on the rock man this movie was awesome.
Dont watch it if you didnt like doom

LoOoL Halo!

The first person sequence is short, so don't let that put you off the movie.
That said the trailers didn't impress me, but if the reviews aren't abysmal I might go see it.

I saw it, and it was okay.
They got rid of all occult themes, which disappointed me. I thought what made Doom 3 great was the occult/science fiction theme. Pentagrams everywhere, blood running down the walls, floating bodies. So it didn't feel much like Doom 3.

I enjoy all kinds of bad sci-fi related moves (even liked Wing Commander, sort of) so I guess I have see this too.

That film did suck, big time. I guess we all like different movies :)
I must be one of the few people that actually liked Alien 4 & AVP.
Hahah, Doom was funny. Someone screamed "HEADSHOT" (oh right, that was me) when Mac died. That's what he gets for being an Apple Mac I guess.
Alien4 was OK, better than Alien 3!
i don't mind saying that Alien vs Predator was much better than i expected... and i really didn't expect much...
xlsior... that's good advice for any soldier, but... i always tell my marines...
if it moves, shoot it... if it doesn't move, shoot it twice...
you guys have convinced me... i'm gonna check this one out on the big screen...

Anyone got any links to trailers?
i saw it and enjoyed it for what it is. i found it was loosely based on the videogame, and i think that they could have done sooooo much more with it, but like i said i enjoyed it for what it is. i did like all the little inuendo's about the game, and how they did the first person view (which was just a short sequence), i thought it was quite funny, and it acctually did remotely resemble playing the game. anyway thats my thoughts to each their own. oh and to qube i enjoyed alien 4 and avp aswell.
jb goto www.doommovie.com theres a trailer and some clips there.

I heard they were doing that in the Halo movie as well.
AVP was the second-worst movie I have ever seen. The only good thing about it was I forgot about it very quickly.
God, that was so bad.
God, that was so bad.
Actually I didn't expect much of aVP but thought it did better than it should have too. Halo, you can't have seen very many bad movies if AVP was the second-worst. What about Tomb Raider for a start.
AVP was sooooo bad...the XTREME female lead that does absolutely nothing...then at the end, they just run out of the pyramid they were previously lost in...then the Predator falls in love...
Oh god, it was sooooo bad.
Oh god, it was sooooo bad.
yeah, OK that bit was lame, but the build up was OK and the best bit was where they revealed the temple with a flare, that had good atmos. The other stuff was OK. But I stand by the fact that Tomb Raider is worse plus tons of other nameless crap.
AVP was the filmic equilivent of getting an audit whilst recovering from multiple rectal keyhole surgery.
It had no pacing to speak of. And the ultimate @#!* up, all the predator effects were new, not at all like in the predator movie. I mean jesus titty @#!*ing christ..what's the point.

They should have made the dark horse comics AVP story instead of the relatively lame one that they came up with.
You know, the Doom movie really sucked. It really had nothing to do with the game. The first line in the movie is something like "an ancient civilization built a portal to Mars that was discovered in Nevada in 2026". Everyone in the theater was like "what the @#!*?". How hard would it have been to follow the original story?
The demons were from a virus, and shot their tongues as projectiles. How freakin' hard would it have been to make them demons from hell? Why did it have to have a stupid stargate story? Why can't they just fly in a ship to Mars? And the sets. They had a whole set design in the game. But instead, they spent most of the time hanging out in a sewer. I wanted to see blue metallic panels.
Doom without hell isn't Doom. The original story was much better. Teleportation experiments open a portal to hell, and demons have to be stopped from invading Earth.
Here's a letter by the scriptwriter to Doom fans. He explains he wants to "expand" the Doom universe. I am guessing someone who financed the film didn't want it to have any occult references:

A real Doom movie would have been really awesome.

they don't won't to make it a cult movie, that's why, they want it to suck;)

I blame it all on id. The only reason I thought this one might be good is because id had turned down many scripts for "not being Doom".
Perhaps the scripts id rejected were worse?
Hmm... on the news two days ago an old man died while in a theater watching doom... I was waiting for the news team to pull some witty pun. No luck, so I made one...
I guess he was DOOMED to see that movie!
No but seriously, what a terrible way to go out.

Yes, films being our business and everything, we could never make a movie that was more cinematic than a game in which you shoot things, then shoot some more of the same things, then some more of the same things, then more of the same things, then read an email, then shoot some more of the same things for hour after hour after hour after hour. Cut us some slack here - Doom 3 is patently the very definition of "cinematic" so you should probably stay at home and play the game instead of seing our lame-ass flick if you want that experience.
He's not the best salesman in the world, is he?
And how could you top the acting in Doom 3? Look at those zombies. You can't teach that kind of talent!
