Xbox 360 Controller for PC's
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Xbox 360 Controller for PC's
Wow! So now you can design your game for the Xbox 360 controller right up front. Additionally, you might actually be able to start getting away with producing a PC game that relies on a gamepad since there's going to be millions of 360 controllers out there. It might not end up being as great as it's potential suggests but it's probably the best attempt yet to get a nice unified multiplatform controller design.

Yeah it's nice. I did the same with my xbox one controller as that too works, just need to replace the funky shaped plug with a regular usb one and (alzar)bam, you knock it up a notch.
nawi-=I'm with you. That xbox things sucks (twitch). I'm not buying one (drool) ever. They'll never get my (eeek) money... Ok, here it is $400. Take it, please. Must have shiney console....kill...kull...
This sounds like a really good move on ms's part. A lot of the games I envision making really won't be very keyboard/mouse friendly.
Of course then again... $40 dollars for a controller???
Seems a little steep if you ask me :\
xbox gamepad works well on pc, you can even squeeze out analogue buttons if you want to.
Looks like a smart plan. Does the 360 pad have true force-feedback or just vibration?
Cant read the site atm due to high-school filter, but doesn't that apply only to the wired 360 controllers?
[EDIT] Home now, and it seems I was correct, still, it'd make for a damn nice PC controller.
Either way, I be picking myself up one, they're controllers are nice, and my DualShock2-ripoff only works so well.
(nothing like the axis's for the right analog stick being inversed on my ripoff)

I think its just plain old vibration, somewhere in the October 2005 DX SDK docs it was called "Rumble™". Very N64'ish.
Yeah looking into it further I think you're right. So many people use 'rumble' and 'force feedback' interchangably.
there aren't any true forcefeedback gamepads that I'm aware of. One nice thing is the analogue buttons are really great, and they now have 2 analogue triggers on each side, so you can accelerate/brake and change gear without any awkward colour button arangement.
I think it's a great move, not many people have gamepads which makes some games like Aerial Antics hard to play on PC. If the majority of 360 owners that also have a PC used them, that would open up a lot more possibilities.
I really like MS controlers, the PC version of the 360 one has the long breakout cable too, which is always a nice alternative to wireless and and lets you put things out the way without digging around behind the PC and under your desk :).
Force-feedback in a gamepad would probably cause carpal-tunnel problems within a week.
