GAME DEPOT!

Hi there,

Blitz Research, please add a "Game Depot" to the
community section!

We need a system where a user can his/her game,
add some screenshots, a description, a genre
(drop down box) and status (alpha, beta, finished)
plus download link. And...user comments + ratings.

Ofcourse, entries could then be searched on all above
criteria. (e.g: arcade games with 4 star ratings or
better).

PHP can check wheter a file exists on other domains,
so you can do a "bad link" check to avoid
out of date entries and send e-mail warnings.
A CRON job could be added so that users will need to
"freshen" their entry (or the entry will be removed).

We really don't have a list of games and announcements
usually dissapear in the forums or in the news archives.

I agree, I would like to see something like this as well. It would brighten up community.

Why not just make yourself a free website, then it's upto you to hype your game. Not the developers of video game development software.

Jeroen's got a point though.. I think having a "project depot" was one of the strong points of blitzcoder..

Kinda like a more specific database version of the showcase then.

I would agree, as long as it is only for completed games, i.e. FULL games, not demos, intros, rubbish half done, incomplete stuff. It would soon fill up with these.

A depot for completed games which can show the potential of all Blitz products, would be a great idea, and act as a place where we can see who has

He original said "(alpha, beta, finished)" but yeah, it could fill up with rubbish if not limited to complete games, however, as there would be a filter, you could easily filter to finished games only.

If its finished games only then its going to be a bit bare !!

Not too bare, plus it cuts down the crap you have to wade through before seeing a finished product.

Might give people extra incentive to actually finish stuff, though. Currently, you can dump any half-arsed tosh in the Gallery. :/

I agree with having a finished Blitz project showcase. It would help advertise the Blitz line of products and would be damn nice.

What about tech demos? There's quite a few nice ones people post here and there across this board.

Hmm... maybe that could qualified as "finished", although, it wouldn't be a "game". There could be a Techdemos (completed techdemos only), Freeware games (completed games only), and possibly Demo Games (Completed game demos only).

You mean demos of full retail games right? It could just be a filter on the game type i.e. Freeware or Shareware.

I will say this tho', at least "half-arsed tosh" makes you feel good sometimes in a "well I'm pretty sure my stuffs better than that" type way.

You know that's one thing we dont have - a really good, solid technical demo.

I'm not talking about something which shows one or two items, but something which really does show off the whole B3d portfolio of capabilities.

Everyone else seems to have one, and I'm damn sure we could do better than the Torque demo or the A6 tech demo (which is pants).

So there's the gaunlet ladies and gentlemen...
