Microsoft Spyware Software

Upon recently trying to install Microsofts very own spyware software I cannot seem to get past the genuine Windows check that occurs before it will let you download the thing. Has anybody had this problem as my Windows XP is genuine but does not pass the check. I have the home addition and service pack 2 maybe this is the problem.

Any help would be great.

I wont have it on my PC.

My laptop doesn't pass spec. but my desktop does, even though they're both just the OEM copies I received from Dell and Visionman. In any case, I don't know a way around this. You're probably screwed.

That microsoft thing stinks. I think that frankly any crap that installs itself without telling you or that does tell you in a roundabout discuised way should be classed as spyware/adware or just plain crap and show up in these programs.

QuickSilva, I've had problems verifying that my Windows XP is legit (which it is) when downloading/installing other "Genuine Windows"-checking programs using Mozilla. Had to use the dreaded IE ("Aiee!") so that ActiveX could do whatever underhanded business it needed to.

I haven't tried what you're installing since I use Ad-Aware and didn't know that MS even had anti-spyware out (not that I'd trust it, of course ;) ).

if you read the web page when that is happening it has issues with OEM versions and explains what to do. Did that with 2 of my PCs.

It would appear that MS Antispyware is a program for preventing competing spyware.

Microsoft paranoid about competitors? Surely not. :P

MS AntiSpy? Very funny. Sounds like "OBL Foundation Antiterror Commando".

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

    javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

Or you could just disable the Genuine Advantage ActiveX control in IE.

Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons

Select 'Windows Genuine Advantage' and then select the 'Disable' radio control.

Good tips there, not for me of course but for "naughty" clients.
