IGC event wrapup on Gamasutra

Pretty cool coverage of many f the key points and ideas about the direction of independent and casual games covered in this article. Taken from the Independent games convention (IGC) event hosted by Garage Games last weekend.

Has some good stuff regarding Microsoft and developing for the Xbox360, Xbox live plans, and where independent games fit in their strategy.

ahhh... considering the potential total number of casual browsers, i guess that's not bad...

... but i would've imagined it to be a bit higher, maybe twice that.

well on PC 2% is a good result. Most good shareware games don't even get 1%. And apparently current Xbox live arcade is about 8% average, up to 20% with the lowest performer coming in at 4%.

yeah... but the numbers for the pc audience are so much larger, and the selection so much wider... those numbers sound about right... but on the macintosh market i would've thought that there would be a higher percentage due to the smaller offerings and 'starvation' of that segment for games in general...

ahhhhh goes to show how much i know...

I'm thinking that the shareware industry isn't smaller than the entire computer games industry back before big developers like EA came along and started their big-budget games.


I have no evidence to support that, but it certainly does seem like that way... and if I wasn't lazy, I may find a few statistics...

i heard there was a roundtable discussion a few years back about RPG's and it denegrated into a big argument over Diablo, has anyone seen any cool videos where they argue at the IGC?

I was there ... it was great! I met quite a lot of people including Beth who wrote that article. In one of the future articles expect to see something about some of our stuff.

Red ... why would you think the percentage of conversion would be so much higher. 8X higher than the PC is amazing IMO!
