Suggestion re: recommended apps

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Suggestion re: recommended apps

OK, I and many people ask "What is the best app for X" and get loads of useful answers. We could google but there is nothing like a personal recommendation from people actually using the apps.

What I think we need is an Apps directory page for Blitz Users so that if someone thinks, hmm, what is the best Bitmap Font tool, they can just go the the page, lookup graphics tools then bitmap font tools and see a list of decent apps. Perhaps people could even vote for apps (with a constraint of one vote per user).

Alternatively it could be a page of links to the relevent forum topics!

Does this sound like a good idea?

You see, at the moment, every time someone says "what is a good app for X" I have to either bookmark it for future use or download the apps now even though I don't need them yet. It would be nice to have a handy "Useful apps for developers" page, don'tcha think?

Isn't that what toolbox is for?

The toolbox only shows Blitz apps AFAIK.

The toolbox is pretty broad. It doesnt look to me as though its focussed only on Blitz apps but rather whats in it can be used by Blitz apps. Theres nothing really stopping anyone from adding Photoshop or 3dsMax to it I dont think?

OK cool, I think I looked at it once ages ago, but it is missing loads of categories such as sound tools, anti-virus/spyware, VOiP etc.

I did once with helpful descriptions but moderators deleted these entries.

GoldWave is an excellent sound tool.

IPete2.

Thanks IPete2, I did a "What is a good wave studio" thread a while back. I just think we need to colalte all this data somehow!

yeah... GA has a good idea... developer recommended tools... or something like that...

the name, a link, and a lil blurb on why you think this tool is indispensible to the Blitz developer...

good idea GA
