How many resons for a Router to reboot??

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How many resons for a Router to reboot??

Hi Peeps.

I just checked my website- and its down again....

The problem is that the Router in the network keeps rebooting.. i thought... "fine, fine! I set you up wrong..." and reset it to default, only enabling wireless and the type of internet connection I have.

Well, sure thing- Since i reset it and didnt touch anything i pratted about with last time, its been faster and more responsive.

but.. its still rebooting and losing my conncetion!

so, What reasons can cause that? I use trillian, which i half suspect to be the cause :/

Well I had a google about it, seems that sending alot of messages over trillian can cause a router to reboot but I can't find what the root cause might be.

Does it reboot while sending messages through trillian mainly and is stable if not?

reseting???

a tech once told me unstable power supply could cause that to happen...

i'm just parroting what he said... i really don't know...

Well, it seems stable out of trillian. The server goes down way more when it is in use. :/

Thanks for pointing that one out.

Not familiar with trilian as I'm not a messaging sort of bloke, but could it be pretty busy and generate a lot of DNS work? If so it could cause this sort of thing.

Many p2p set ups are known culprits in this very way, can be that it floods the tables in the router which then reboots.

Also got a nearby immersion heater with a Honeywell (spit) 'stat on it; that can do it too. Asking how many reasons is a bit like asking "how long is a bit of string"! ;O)

Making any kind of weird noises?

My old linksys router was locking up and/or resetting itself for a week or two before it died altogether.

It was also emitting a very high pitch (almost inaudiable) squealing noise during most of that time -- most likely a bad capacitor.

Nope.. seems to function okay.. no wierd sounds.

My GFX card is making those sounds though- and has recently started doing things like giving the wrong mesh alpha :/
