fun and true ... mostly

Come to think of it, have you ever actually seen one of those wooden crates in real life? And did you smash it to see if there were bullets and medicine inside?

I think that would be fun!

Also i was shocked about the patent stuff!

That is one of best articles I've read in a while...definately bookmarking it.....however....I still like shiny games!

Read the first page or so..still laughing so much I'll have to get back to it later =)

"AO" (Adults Only) ESRB rating for games, but when is the last time you saw it?

"Singles"
...among others...

I'm sorry.

Other than that innaccurate comment, it's a great article.

Wow, that site is filled with good articles, most of them making my lmao....thx for linking us up.

More-so liked the first article you posted as I pretty much agreed with everything the author said.

the porn article was funny. Go on click the pics!

My favourite quotes:-

"Wow! This must be one of those new second-person shooters we've been hearing about where you spend the whole game looking at the hero's f***ing eye."

"Why isn't the Dark Elf waiting at the Black Temple like he said? Because I haven't talked to every f***ing person in town yet."

"Don't show my character casting magic meteors that smash mountains in one scene and in the next send me all over the dungeon trying to find a single key to a rickety wooden door that looks like it could be knocked in with a strong shoulder. "

"And here's another tip: If you have a single level where the player's character is required to run toward the camera, send the f***er back for more programming because you're not done yet. "

"Confusing, mapless floor plans. Did you remember when you were a kid and you got bored on weekends, how you would go to a large building, a hotel or a hospital, then wander around for several hours looking for a certain room? While zombies attacked you? Neither do we."

This is my favourite quote - 'LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!!' in a very loud tone of voice.

Great, good to read when bored out of your mind.

Alot of the stuff that guy said was true, but alot of it seems to contradict what he might have said previously. Like he complains games aren't immersive and realistic enough, then he complains a game doesn't have enough ammo and a confusing floor plan??

He was also saying how the game industry will eventually crash like it did in the 80s in one article, then he goes and talk about how MMORPG will change the world in another....

As for Artificial Intelligence, people often forget that AI requires RI (Real Intelligence). Most programmers just want to get the job done and arent really exceptionally bright. I've had a "look" at the Civilization AI and i can see that it lacks simply because the programmers arent smart enough.

Most programmers just want to get the job done and arent really exceptionally bright.

Thats a rough statement. Programmers aren't paid to design AI, they are paid to program AI. The actual design and process of an AI systems are done by the designers.

BTW, you know how old that Civilization game is?

Civ had much better AI than CIv 3.

That guy reminded me of a complaining little baby who wished everyone would see things his way.

I looked at Civ3. Maybe you're right but i dont think so. I've seen Civ2 AI do horribly stupid things also. No improvement imho.
Designers? I suppose youre right. But they have to be coders as well, because if they wanted to write down all the rules for the AI to follow, it would be as much coding as to program it directly.

@Zenith,
if you mean the guy writing the article, i partially agree. He doesnt exactly seem to know the limits of hardware for example, etc. Doesn't sound like he's a game developer himself, thats for sure.

> Like he complains games aren't immersive and
> realistic enough, then he complains a game doesn't
> have enough ammo and a confusing floor plan??

Yeah but that doesn't really matter though, the fact is he gripes about all the stereo typical things that have plagued games and game genres for years.

It's just an amusing read about computer games :) Don't take it too seriously.

Doesn't sound like he's a game developer himself, thats for sure.

Yeah...obiviously he's just a gammer and from judging from his articles, he's a big time gammer since he has so much to gripe about. But the problem here lies in the fact that since he is the gammer, he's the one who buys the games, hence he's the one who's paying.

Most of the time, clients (in this case, gammers) often ask for unreasonable requests and features. We dont have to agree with them, but sometimes its a good idea to listen. But it is a pretty funny and interesting read....

Haha, that was one of the funnies things I've ever read on the internet. The very first one burst me into laughter so hard tears started to form in my eyes.
