Dvorak Keyboard Layout

Anyone using this?

Apparantly it cuts down fatigue and increases speed, and it's not supposed to take long to get used to either. It seems that once you've got used to typing then rearranging keys doesn't take much relearning...

Anyway... Just curious if anyone's had a go at this?

Never heard of it - I would probably never buy one - coz I am a touch-typist.

There's nothing to buy Puki, you just go to regional settings and select Dvorak keyboard layout, like you would choose US or UK layout. You might have to buy some stickers to put on your keys or pop off the keys and re-arrange them.

It's for people learning to type and people who can already type. The layout is designed for speed and comfort rather than to stop the typewriter hammers hitting each other.

It's supposed to take about a month to get used to then you'll never want to type on a qwerty again... It can reduce RSI and other problems, you use less hand movement therefore less fatigue.

Generally it sounds interesting, although you'd have to take a couple of weeks off work (if you type at work) to adjust to it.

Getting used to the dvorak layout isn't the hardest part. Switching between using dvorak and qwerty on demand is. Oh and it's ofcourse only useful for people who cheifly write in English.

But I've used a querty keyboard for 20 years, have always been able to type fast and have never suffered from repetitive strain injury, even when sat at the keyboard all day long.

So I can't see why I'd want a DVORAK keyboard. Besides
QAOP and SPACE doesn't work anymore :)

I considered it but got a natural keyboard and a smartglove. This resolved my left wrist problems (caused by years for FPS abuse)

Typing is tiring work now, is it?
I hate to imagine how hard it is for whoever makes that claim to handwrite...

Theres a guy at work who actually uses that DVORAK layout....yep he actually popped the keys from his keyboard and re-arranged it in DVORAK and he's actually quite good at it too. We all think he's a little weird.....

Neuro. Well I don't know what the rest of his personality is like but it's actually quite sensible to optimise your keyboard if you use it all day. Only prob I could see, as someone already mentioned, is swapping back to QWERTY on an ad hoc basis could be a bitch.

What would happen to WASD for games? I hate using the arrow keys...and this would mess everything up. Game programmers would have to reprogram to use ,AOE!

What kind of game produced in anything approaching a professional manner doesn't have remappable control keys? (I ask, rhetorically)

Dvorak is the name of one of my work colleagues oddly enough. I wonder if he uses that method.

We had a guy here in the office that used one. You should see his face when you give him a normal keyboard and tell him to type something.

Love it, I am about 50% faster, easier on me.

My PC is set up to work with either Dvorak or Qwerty. I thought I'd try out Dvorak several months ago, but I haven't stuck with it, because I was afraid of the trouble I might encounter having to type Qwerty on everyone elses keyboards.

Thats getting incredibly popular! That SmartGlove works wonders for a flimsy peice of plastic in a glove with the fingers cut off, and a beanbag in the palm.. ¬.¬ :D


Only thing was, i was Unsmart about buying one, and paid for it to come from America ($20.00 delivery on top of the $29.99 price, but stamped when it arrived with $9.00) when my local Staples shop sold them!!!!

Wolron: Yeah that's the problem isn't it? It's a better syytem yet unless everyone changes you can't really properly adopt it.
