Control Monger

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Control Monger

Is going places, anyody here play it. And is really made all in blitz. I mean its got quite a resume.
Hypernia, XFire, and noe eDimmensions(or whatever its called).

Any thoughts.

P.S. Did they ask the companies, or did these companies find them?

I've had a go on it, so has "nawi" and "Becky Rose" - Problem is, when I tried to play it "nawi" wasn't there. It was part of my online gaming night that only a few people showed up for (I think everyone showed up at different times to everyone else).

I thought it was okay - apart from I was just walking around a level on my own - sniff. I didn't play much because nobody would play with me.

I don't know much more about it.

I was playing an hour ago... there were 8 people there at that point. :)

It is awesome!

Yup. I think so to. But its still very indie. (nothing wrong with that) just to have xfire that supports games like... hmmm. HALO! And here is this indie game that uses maplet and built with blitz. Impressive really.

I think Control Monger is very good and any gamer is just going to see it as a game. You see Maplet and Blitz ... others just see 3D game.

I've played it a few times during it's development. It's quite a nice game but does have some major shortcomings.

How you view Control Monger depends very much on whether it stays free game or whether they start charging for it. As a free game it's pretty good and better than most of the shooters we see half finished, on account of it being in a "finished" & playable condition, but it's raw gameplay isn't good enough.

It could be a whole lot better with minimal effort though, but to be honest if they charged for it now then I wouldn't give it the time of day.

I have given "my opinion" to the authors already, but as i'm named above i'll echo them here.

Leaving aside minor gameplay points like controls and stuff, this is what I think they've majorly miss-calculated:

We're supposed to be driving around in robots, but it moves like Quake with a fast runspeed and no mommentum, it's like they've used robots as a cheap excuse not to do human models. I think if the player avatars are to be believeable they need to move slower and have mommentum - or they should not be flying robots as at the moment it feels cheap.

Whatever 'bot' you are in you only have 1 decent weapon - the rest are all on fixed firearcs with limited ammo that make them pointless and/or impossible to use. This usually results in your ammo being expended well before you've got near the enemy with them.

Graphically it's not a bad game but the levels are so clearly CS affairs without any post-editing and show all the traits of their CS routes in being extremely cuboid in both layout and appearance if "thin" walls.

I have passed my thouhts onto the team previously and they'll doubtless figure i'm either jealous of their creation or just some nutter on the net who wants to slag 'em off - but actually if you think about it whilst the points I raise are game wreckers in terms of gameplay and feel - none of them are actually that hard to fix if they agree that they are wrong. I think they are.

It's a good little game but as things stand if I fancy a game right now i'm more likely to find myslf playing a half written demo from the showcase or popping over to gamehippo or nonags and finding a different little game than I am to play control monger. It just doesnt have gameplay.

The fact that it comes so close to being a brilliant game is what makes it so frustrating that it isn't so whilst i'm critical of it I hope it's a "cruel to be kind" aspect of my personality ;).

wow... thats a lot.

I think If I had better tools ($$$ required) I could do better. But heh, I'm sure everybody thinks so. I do have a lot of good ideas for it.

I refuse to play it because of that annoying guy (Drac...) that is part of the team that made it.

I did try the demo once, thought it ran slow and choppy as hell, too.

Haha Snarkbait, your not the only one ;)

This game is fun and enjoyable!

It just doesnt have gameplay.

What are you talking about? It's got tons of cool little gameplay subtlties. It all depends on what player class you use but I found it really cool to use the sniper bot and play with the different abilities (invisible, shield, etc...) Definitely deeper than a straight Quake type game.

I've been playing it for quite a while. I love it.

puki, I did play it for about 30minutes but never saw u..

The multiplayer game play is the best I've seen thus far for a Blitz-made product. I played it for hours (and I dont have time to play games). It really shows what you can do with Blitz3D if you put your will to it. I'm motivated!
