Recommend a freeware Wave Studio?

Hi, I use Creative Wavestudio 5 that came with the Audigy 2. Although good for basic stuff, it lacks bells and whistles. For example you can make an echo but only 1, you can't specify how many repeats there are. Also there is no reverb effect, or phaser effect etc.

Can anyone recommend any decent freeware equivalents to wave studio that let you edit, change format, apply effects and so on? Many thanks in advance.

Isn't Audacity the bees knees? I used that a while back..left me with a good impression.

Yup, Audacity rulez. I have Wave Lab 5.0 and Sound Forge 8.0, but still find myself using Audacity for most wave manipulation, unless I need to use VST plugins.

The interface for Audacity could be better, but the program itself does it's job well. The noise removal function is a pretty decent one (for a free app).

Anything but Nero Wave Editor :) I use Sound Forge, or, I have sound forge and dont use it. Not too sure about freeware editors TBH.

Audacity is about the best freeware editor out there, if you don't mind spending a little bit of money there's also NGWave http://www.ngwave.com $39.95US and GoldWave http://www.goldwave.com/ $48.00 US both of which outperform audacity quite extensively, but nothing really compares to Wavelab :)

Just trying Audacity, too - sems pretty fine. How do you play a sample on a loop inside the editor, though? I'm sure I used to be able to do this with Cool Edit.

hmm, how dumb, someone lent me a full copy of wavelab, cubase and dongle, it's just sitting there on my shelf!
