Your experiences with online payment systems

This thread comes around every few months, but the economy changes so rapidly and new businesses are coming out, I'm always interested to hear what people are getting good results from thesedays.

Personally, I live in Australia, so want to know what experience people here have had using systems like Share*It and Pay Pal - but even if you don't live here - what degrees of success have you had getting your money from online payers and not being billed massive duties in the process?

As a consumer using PayPal and ShareIT, I have found both to be totally fine. Used paypal about 20 times and ShareIT about 3.

Share*it have been working extremely well for me, their customer service is A1. Never had any problems with payments. Some people feel their charges per sale are a little high, but they have two price models and if you work this into your costs it should have very little impact on your profits.

PayPal I loath, I only use it for JV-ODE sales just to keep folks here happy. I wouldn't dream of using PayPal for sales of our other software to the general public. I've not had payment problems myself (yet), but I've heard a few horror stories - ask FlameDuck for one of those.

Avoid Softwrap like the plague.

Every firm has a horror story.

I've sold and bought under Paypal and not had any problems at all. I've bought under Share*It/Worldpay and I preffer not too.

Worldpay I really dont feel comfortable buying with. I havn't used them in a while so I dont recall specifically what put me off but when their order process came up in the past I felt uncomfortable with it.

I only trust them at all because they are near enough to me that if I get real problems I can down there at night and move car parking spaces around with a spray can or something...

I don't know what anyone sees in ShareIt, to be honest. Plimus and BMT Micro both offer a lot more for a lot less. I ditched ShareIt a long time ago and I see no downside to that decision.

RegNow have a lot of affiliates, but they're very expensive unless you use them as your only payment provider, and they're pretty fiddly to set up. RegNow are perhaps worth using as a secondary provider as they can take PayPal payments for you, without you needing a PayPal account, without the risks FlameDuck will refer to, and without you having to set up some complex scripting to automatically deliver downloads/keys to the users or leave them to wait until you can do it manually.

Is there anything stopping you from using all three services? Why ditch Share*it if not?

Over time, I've had okay results. I remember this one time on Amazon, due to lag I ordered two items twice, and I couldn't cancel them, so I ended up paying for them both twice. That was annoying.

Nothing prohibits me ( or anyone if you meant the generic you ) from using all three. But ShareIt takes almost twice as much as the others. You can easily say that $1 or $2 here and there makes no difference, but it sure adds up fast if it's your business. If there's an advantage I'm not seeing, fair enough, but I can't imagine what it might be. ShareIt don't have much of an affiliate network, so that wouldn't be it.

I don't know, do they offer something BMT and Plimus don't?

I've used PayPal several times, and I've had no problems with it..
I think I've used ShareIT a couple of times as well, and I haven't had any problems with that one either..

Do *WHAT* to an Aston Martin!? How could you even think of such a thig! If the boss owns an Aston i'll have enough trouble keeping my clothes on let alone deface it. Have you any idea what sort of paralysing effect they have on me?

You've just increased sales of second hand aston martins everywhere.

The advantage of keeping the Share*it option open (as well as the others) is that it would give more choice to your customers and with all three payment options, the hit on your profits via Share*it would be diluted by the other two. I was thinking maybe it would be more beneficial for both you and the customers to make the Share*it option available too, rather than ditch it altogether. That's kinda what I was getting at.

Yeh, I meant the generic you btw, I wasn't sure if there was some kind of exclusive deal with BMT or Plimus.
